Man of the one day series is Gilchrist.
Oops, I thought the MOM call was the MOS announcement (in my defence, I was fighting with my son for the remote control. :)).

Still think Watson should have got it though.

The fact that Kallis' record is better than Lara's completely shoots down that arguement.
Lara 10818 runs, 30 100's, 46 50's, 54.09

Kallis 7337 runs, 22 100's, 37 50's, ave 56.87

Only his average is better and it's by the MASSIVE difference of 2.78 runs. 8-)

Against Australia

Lara 2470 runs, 8 100's, 11 50's, ave 51.45

Kallis 685 runs, 1 100, 4 50's, ave 32.61

Harsh, man. He didn't get a bat and took a pivotal wicket. He didn't excell, true, but he was okay.
I didn't think my comment was particularly harsh - I was recommending he get Man of the Series, and I only said he didn't do a whole lot in the second game (not batting and taking 1/56).

I didnt say it was better by a large amount.

But its stupid to suggest that Kallis can get dropped for poor performances, but Lara cant because he has a good record... Even if they had equal records it would be a stupid thing to say.

Kallis' record against Australia is not better, IIRC.
He didnt say "against Australia" though.

Ah okay. That 1-fer was a BIG 1-fer, though. :D

Lee picked up a nice group of big names in his efforts today, its not everyday you get Gayle, Kallis, Lara and Dravid out

that is your opinion. Against Australia, Kallis won't even come close, for me.
I can accept that its a matter of opinion, but I cant accept that Lara is simply better hands down.

If you took away the not outs from Kallis's record I wonder if his average would look quite so healthy! :p He has to be the most selfish of the leading batters currently playing. Wonderful talent & all, but I find it v hard to warm to the bloke.

Oh, let's be honest - many of us just can't stand the man - I know I can't. :)

And Lara's magical. I'd have Lara over Kallis in a match like this anyday.

i dont see the relationship between 'not putting 100% in' and 'regaining form'.
and you can call it whatever you want, the fact is that flintoff has underperformed immensely this series. and i dont see how the aussies should be dissapointed with their scheduling during the summer, given that it all played right into their hands and they got way too much practice before the first ashes test began.
and if you think katich and gilchrist have improved as players since then you're obviously deluding yourself.
What drugs are you on?

Aus had no meaningful practice before the Ashes.

However, they agreed to the scheduling and only have themselves to blame.

Not to mention he's really excelled by eliminated most risks out of his play, limited his strokes to the V and square of the wicket. Considering all the risks Lara takes with his style of batting, it's amazing he averages near 55.

Kallis is a very talented player with vast reserves of concentration, no doubt. But he's definitely in the 'one-gear' category. Lara has played everything in the range from grinding back-to-the-wall innings' to flashy better than a run-a-ball knocks and has played well against the strongest sides as well as the weaker sides. Easily the better player for mine, forget the stats.

oh no i dont deny that watson will never develop into anything as a bowler. i do however maintain that he is very very poor with the bal ATM, and as such does not merit selection in the side as a bowling or any type of all rounder.
Watson's selection is based purely on potential.

He's 24, averages nearly 50 in fc with the bat, is an outstanding fieldsman, and is rapidly improving with the ball. In summary, he's what Aus needs.

Compare him to Flintoff at the same age and Watson is miles ahead.

Looking at the 14, I'd say they'll have to play:

Smith
Sehwag
Dravid
Lara
Kallis
Flintoff
Boucher
Pollock
Vettori
Akhtar
Muralitharan.

For me, that's only really 2 spots out from the team that should be there, and in a way the batting wouldn't be any stronger if you substitute the 2 in, but the keeping would be a lot stronger.
if its a turner i'd drop Ahktar for Harmison

What's with the bit of green tape on the Australians sleeve? Are they covering up an advertisement?
James, I dont know if it is the green or is it Black tape your refering to ,If it is the black ,all the players have them on as a mark of respect from whats happened this morning over in Pakistan/India.
