I don't know what it is about rugby league but it is obvious clubs don't like sacking caoches during the season no matter how poor the team is going. If he was a football/soccer manager or in any other sport he would have been sacked long ago.

Who is the next best choice? We can't keep going back to Wayne Bennett.
But, the thing is we can keep going back to Wayne Bennett!

I heard that Craig Bellemy was being talked about getting the job, but his is from NSW i think. The guy i would go for is John Lang, but they maybe be looking for a more long term option.
John Lang has said he won't coach Qld while he is a club coach, and Bellamy has said coaching Qld isn't out of the question.

IMO the coach should be a non-club coach. Hagan didn't want Johns getting injured because he needs him, and therefore didn't have anyone going at him in game 2 - his hand was forced in game 3, but the team was coached to **** anyway.

I think Mal Meninga should get the job, he coached Qld City to a crunching win over Qld Country and had the team for less than a week.

and if his coaching doesn't work, he could always beat up the NSW team for you :p

That's always a handy attribute of any coach. And would show more passion than a Qlder has in the last 2 seasons.

You can just imagine it up here in Queensland, that they turn to a New Southwelshman, it wouldn't go down to well and in Sydney it would be that we don't have any decent coaches so we have to use one of their own.

i wonder if someone like Kevin Walters or Gary Belcher would be considered. Remember when Fatty did it he never coached at club level before and he did a pretty good job. I personally think Kevie would be a good option...

And how did Fatty go in 1996 and 1997? As for Kevvie, I think we can judge him by his performances with the Toowoomba Clydesdales- absolutely miserable. At this stage in his coaching career, he wouldn't know sh!t from clay.

Bellamy is the obvious choice. Who cares where he comes from. Nobody cared about Adrian Lam or Graeme Lowe's birth certificate. I just want to see someone with some tactical know-how. Not a meat-head like Gilly, Mal or Wally.

Bellamy coached country origin this year, i find it hard to believe he would coach Queensland just like that...

I think he's expressed an interest though. Just anyone but a former player. I mean, if Wally, Mal, Kevvy or Gillmeister were not Qld Origin legends, then you wouldn't let them within 1000 miles of a Coaching Box. Their names get brought up, based solely on the fact that they were top-drawer players. There's a world of difference between being a Coach and a player. Look at the best Origin coach of all - Phil Gould. He was hardly a standout player. Same with Bennett and John Buchanan. If we want a motivator, get Alan Jones to address them before they run out, but leave the coaching to a professional.

Mal Meninga has coached at club level, and he has successfully coached Queensland City. He is the best option. Gillmeister is also an Ipswich Jets coach and will be the Gold Coast's assistant coach. I would not be happy if a ****roach was coaching Qld. It's like saying it would be ok for Joey to pull on a jersey for Qld.

Or like saying it ok to have the son of NSW legend pulling on the QLD jesery, or wait that happen when Matt Rogers played for QLD.

Already knew all that. Also know that Meninga was sacked as Canberra's coach after a less than distinguished stint, and that, under Gillmeister's watch, Ipswich finished 2nd last in 2004, and are 3rd last in 2005. :p In the Decider, all of NSW's tries were scored down the one side of the field. All the passion in the world is not going to fix glaring deficiencies like that. Rather, a good coach, with some success behind him, is what Queensland need- along with some changes in playing personnel. I understand where you're coming from though mate- be great to have Meninga and Gillmeister heavily involved in the camp in some capacity.

Lockyer's got to work on his tackling for next year, or drop back behind the line in defence. He missed so many tackles this year, it was embarrassing for him. That's one area of the game that really casts a pall on the claim that he is the best player in the world.

maybe lockyer poor tackling was more down to the fact that Tonie Carroll wasn't there to make half his tackles in the first two games and in the third game he wasn't fully fit and couldn't help him out in defence as much as e usually does.

That he needs a 'minder', tells you something about how weak his defence is.

Matt Rogers grew up in Qld, and said he wouldn't have played for NSW no matter what! He went to Southport High School up here and played rugby for them and played his first senior football in Qld - he was eligible. If we're going to start making players play where they come from it would be a farce! Bowman was born in NSW & Sterling was born in Toowoomba. Your scenario is not at all like Johns playing for Qld after he has alread played for NSW.

Meninga did not have the greatest support, nor the best players at his disposal during his time at Canberra, I would rather him than some club coach, who is more interested in his players getting through the series injury free than winning for their state.
