That's a fair point. But I was only marvelling at the fact that a country of our size is able to produce such a good performance on the world stage. Meant nothing more by it.
It's a fair feeling in the middle of such a dominant performance.

Just watching the highlights - one of the commentators brought up the fact that it was probably swinging more for the Indian bowlers early on. Difference looked to be the bounce the NZ bowlers were getting, and the batting of Taylor and Styris early to get through when the ball was swinging.

Great stuff from NZ - just hope they can keep it up.

Jadeja reminds me of some of the players England ODI team used to play in name of all-rounders.... Bits and pieces players.... not good enough to make the team as bowler or batsman.

Sorry mate, didn't mean that you did.

But I just think that if population was significant, the sub-continent would dominate.

If population + income of the people was the be all and end all, England would be a lot better than they have been

jeez, is Mills the most consistently blatant code of conduct breacher in cricket? I think he gets away with it because his bowling is so physically non-threatening, and because he's just a loveable dorky NZer.

I taught Tuffeh that backhand flick playing indoor against him btw.

That was truly brilliant stuff from NZ indeed, and they can do with some confidence boosting before the World Cup. :)

Sadly I couldn't catch the match live, but India's ineptitude at playing the short ball continues to surprise me. I don't follow Indian cricket too closely, but does anyone think that this weakness against bounce will trouble them in the World Cup? I mean, as Styris mentioned, other bowlers always know what to target India with, and they're often successful.

Most probably not, as they play their home matches on tehir home soil flat beds. If they have to play SL, that will be in new stadiums, and I doubt the pitches to have bounce. Only Dambulla and PSS have this much of bounce in them, the former for seamers and latter for spinners. Dambulla resembles a very hot day (by NZ standards) on a typical NZ pitch. NZ may pull out a surprise in this tournament.

India did well in NZ last year and Australia the year before that, I think their vulnerability to the short ball is a bit overstated. It's just that when we're bad, we're really miserable.

More than the runs he scores, The psychological calming effect of Tendulkar in the team is sorely missed.

Yep. The middle order has thrived on good starts given by Sachin in the last few years.

India's weakness against shorter stuff is most pronounced in the shortest format.

England is A LOT better now than people make them out to be. We'll see this come Ashes and WC time for sure.

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised come World Cup time, cause I have an odd feeling that India's not making the final, or coming close for that matter. They'll make it past groups, but when you have to play the Dutch, Irish, and Bangladesh, then the Super Eight is a lock. On the question of if India can make it out of the Super Eights, I highly doubt it actually. Yes they will have Tendulkar and their best, but I think that every other team that makes the super eights can probably rough em up quite a bit, with the exception maybe of Pakistan. I would not be surprised at all if India disappoint heavily come February.
