Well done on that - I suspect all the betting agencies will leave the odds pretty even until the toss now, and then change them up depending on who wins it.
Nah because a lot of people don't realise the trend. Betting markets are based on what punters bet on and/or are likely to bet on. You'll get overs for whoever wins the toss every game. Awesome when an underdog wins the toss.

So I wasn't able to catch the match today. Can anyone tell me why India were just GOD-AWFUL against a New Zealand team that left out probably their top 2-3 players?

cbf searching through the thread. How did Williamson look in getting his duck? Hopefully not all at sea...

All at sea. Nah, he got a good ball to get out. Styris and Taylor were excellent - defended staunchly when the pressure was on, but got the run rate back up once they had their eye in. Then I went to bed and missed all the wickets. Damn. Sounds like a good Kiwi win.

He got a good ball. He did look a little nervous, but you wouldn't hang him on that evidence. He's now got a wicket, so that may settle him down.

PS - Oram on the radio this morning said Kane wasn't that nervous, just got a good ball.

I can't believe how much hope I'm investing in a guy who has a duck to his name.

From cricinfo ball-by-ball commentary:

Swapnil: "So whats the news - has Taylor enforced the follow-on? There's still 18 overs to be played for stumps right?"

Gutted I had to miss the second innings. Sounded like a right thrashing.

Oh man, this is as good a thrashing as we have ever got. I kept an alarm to wake up for the second innings. Saw 3 balls saw Sehwag and Karthik get out. Couldn't understand if I was still sleeping and dreaming and then drifted back to sleep.

Saw the highlights of the Dhaka 316 game though and that takes the edge out of this walloping.

Great start by India actually - NZ in big trouble. Then good batting by Styris and Taylor where India got quite messy - missed a few chances - appeal on Styris early on went NZ's way. Then NZ bowling was disciplined while India's batting was not.

Oddly enough I don't see why India's bat would be after a well made victory in that 3rd test. Yes I know they don't have Sachin in this ODI and blah blah blah about different line-ups, but Sehwag and the top order getting demolished? Could there be something to this or will this be Asia Cup all over again where they only show up come final time.

PS. No one wants to see my pants on fire.
Thats what you think.

Indeed.

The population argument is so simplistic, and just completely deceptive.

Otherwise Bangladesh should be dominating.
I'm going to keep this for our next England tour. "Oh they try so hard, they're only a little country of hard workers and look at them go." :D

But yeah population means squat when you consider WI and Australia have been the dominant teams in history.

How in the world are New Zealand the number two ranked ODI side? I can't remember the last time they won a series at home against a team that wasn't Bangladesh.

It's unreasonable to expect Williamson to come in and start scoring loads of runs straight away, in a foreign environment. He is only (just) 20 afterall. Even Taylor was 23 when he first consolidated his spot in the side. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it took him 12-18 months for him to really adjust to international cricket. Still this is only one innings so far, so we'll see I guess.

Nice stuff from the bowlers. Not too surprised that McKay wasn't that sharp, given that a) they're playing in the sub-continent, and the extra heat tends to sap the bowlers' energy; and b) he's not that fast to begin with (honestly, Gillespie before he stuffed his back was faster imo).

It was a lighthearted response to another lighthearted dig by a NZ poster. Don't get your pants on fire for this. Cheers.
It wasn't meant to be a dig.

That's a fair point. But I was only marvelling at the fact that a country of our size is able to produce such a good performance on the world stage. Meant nothing more by it.
