I never get why he waits so long to try the yorker against tailenders. A low-key ending to a low key match.

With WI thrashing England and Australia hammering SL, who carries the favourites tag going into the Ashes? So far, I thought it will be England but the tables are turning.
Dont think either result has much impact on the Ashes. Australia beat a better Sri Lanka side 3-0 in 2012/13 and then got thrashed in England (and India for that matter).

England lost in the Windies in 2009 and still regained the Ashes that year.

That Starc 10 wicket haul probably means as much as Khawaja's ton yesterday. Good for the stats but when it mattered against India this season they both failed to step up as you would expect of senior players.

Maybe the reason the yorker worked so well is because of what it was preceded with and its effect on the batsman's mindset/footwork etc.

yep. it wouldn't have taken much of a step up either.

England are going to smash us. I am not expecting Warner or Smith to have form.

Very easy series win. Not gonna be the most memorable series win by any stretch of the imagination, but given how poor the last 12 months have been for Australian cricket, even minnow bashing works in this context.

Seriously dire performance from Sri Lanka. I did think we'd do well as Sri Lanka didn't have a batsman in the Pujara/Kohli class to stall Australia and their bowling was **** enough that even Australia's batting should've scored runs, but this is basically Bangladesh of 10 years ago level. Very ordinary all round.

Anyway, series ratings:

Harris 3 - the only Australia that can really say this series was a missed opportunity. Was our best batsman against India, but here basically played like he did at FC level before moving to Victoria. Simply not good enough.
Burns 9 - you'd take one match defining ton in a two-Test series any day of the week. Well played. Still a bit skeptical of his long-term longevity as an opener but surely he's earned a go now?
Khawaja 5 - did score a ton but it was arguably the easiest ton I ever saw. When runs were on offer in the first innings he failed. Also fielded poorly.
Labuschagne 6 - good 80-odd, and proved a handy partnership breaker with the ball. Still needs some seasoning with the bat if he is to be a long-term option, though.
Head 10 - immense. Scored runs in every innings, and both of his first innings scores were actually very important, coming in in difficult circumstances for Australia. Could still come undone in swinging conditions but otherwise we may have found a ten year 5/6 and a possible future captain.
Patterson 8 - his century might have been easy, but runs are runs. Also looked decent in tough conditions at Brisbane. Looks a player.
Paine 6 - kept and captained very well. Didn't get much of a chance with the bat.
Cummins 10 - world class. Basically did not bowl a bad ball all series.
Starc 7.5 - looked awful at Brisbane, but does deserve a lot of credit for his bowling at Canberra. Looked fast and while bowled a few pies was more reliable than I've seen him for a long time.
Richardson 8 - not sure he's quite got the right tools to his bow for the average Australian conditions, but does look very impressive in more friendly ones. Should be in our first-choice Ashes attack.
Lyon 5 - backseat role from him. Was kinda a passenger for the whole series as the fast bowlers were too much for most of the Lankan batting lineup.

D Karunaratne 4 - decent innings before getting hit on the neck here, otherwise not much.
Thirrimanne 5 - actually batted with a bit of grit and made a few starts. There was much worse.
Chandimal 1 - horror series for someone that really needed to step up and be the leader. Simply awful.
Mendis 2 - only got a start here, and it proved to be irrelevant.
de Silva 2 - sitting duck for the most part, just did not look up
Silva 1 - did nothing in his only Test.
Dickwella 7 - the one player that actually looked up to enjoy the fight, and kept reasonably well too.
D Perera 2 - could neither contain or take wickets. Simply seemed useless, especially at Canberra.
Lakmal 8 - the only bowler for Sri Lanka that looked a threat. Bowled pretty solidly during the day and was genuinely dangerous under lights. How Sri Lanka missed him at Canberra.
Chameera 4 - wasn't terrible. Still only took one wicket though and leaked a few runs.
Kumara 4 - middling before getting injured. At least kept things tighter than the seamers at Canberra.
K Perera 3.5 - actually looked OK before getting sconned.
C Karunaratne 1.5 - his first two overs were good. Other than that I think I could've bowled better. Managed a half-decent slog after the game was long gone in the second innings but even then only got 20-odd.
Rajitha 4 - pick of the bowlers at Canberra, which says all you need to know.
Fernando 3 - leading wicket-taker in Canberra. But even his wickets were kinda jammy and didn't put much pressure on once the ball stopped swinging.

Is there any more mens international cricket on in Australia for the rest of the summer, or is that it now?

Really? That'll be awesome.

What a low summer from an Australian supporter's POV. Lost to India at home, though there was some good cricket played in that series at least, then get a grand finale of a two test rogering of SL. All that combined with a BBL which seems to have been going since decimal currency was introduced.

When the hell does that thing end?

England are hugely inconsistent... expect them to win 3-2 with two innings defeats or something like that. Probably in the matches where they lose the toss.

Will Warner/Smith be available when Australia tour India for the ODI series?
