With the slightly older ball, he hits full tilt (pace-wise), bringing in more variations and bowling the odd quick bouncer. Just a strategy that has served him well in the past and I'm surprised he gets so much flak for it.

This is the third time this summer that I've observed this issue being mentioned. Once by Robin Jackman and once by Hylton Ackerman, IIRC before today.

If you are going to gripe about anything in that session it is why the number 1 bowler in the world had only bowled 4 overs and the captain decided to shove on the spinner when one bat had been peppered by short stuff and hit on head and body as he was struggling.

This is bad captaincy. If your going to use the short stuff against Matthews then at least put a short leg in.

Smith's having a mare today. Bowling changes have been bizarre tstl.

Morkel is bowling a fair few pies though.

This is why I sometimes struggle to rate Morkel as highly as I should. Every now and then for no reason he'll turn into the world's biggest pie-chucker (in more ways than one)
