Predictions:
ODI 1

J Marshall - OUT - 2
H Marshall - OUT - 7
D Vettori - OUT - 56

Why was J MArshall even considered for selection? Franklin is a very crap limited overs bowler and other bowlers should get a run ahead of him. He hasnt shown any form in limited overs even with an average of over 40 in county cricket

Why James Marshall??

my strongest team would be

1 McCullum
2 Fleming
3 Taylor
4 Styris
5 Astle/McMillian
6 H Marshall
7 Vincent
8 Oram
9 Vettori
10 Mills
11 Bond

Not reallya fan of astle, but on current form who else is there? plus gives a few overs - Mcmillians formhas been outstanding in domestic and really is putting his hand up again.

Another option is to go to how to open, and drop Fleming to three. Taylor to 4 etc and drop Marshal or Vincent. Howhas hadresonble success in the few odi's he has played so far

I agree with most of your players and Mcmillan but just in a different order. McCullum did well and should open. But Fleming is a natural middle order player and IMO is better suited to the middle order where he can knock the ball around and build an innings. He always looks a bit ungainly when he tries to smash the ball in the first 10 overs. He averages about the same at opening as he does in the middle order.

Whereas Astle has been an opener for a long time so I would swap those two around. Astle to open and Fleming in the middle order. Ryder can be the backup selection for the world cup for the opening position to cover for either form or injury.

Vincent is a MIDDLE ORDER PLAYER.

Styris to me is a bit part player and overated, but with McCullum opening it creates a spot for a batsman at 6, so Styris or McMillan would go there.

Franklin should be persisted with. Chris Cairns rated him highly and so did Richard Hadlee and they know more about being an allrounder than I ever will.

McCullum
Astle/ Ryder
Taylor
Fleming
Vincent
Styris/McMillan
Oram
Vettori
Franklin/Mills
Bond
Gillespie.

Throw in Patel as a back up spinner. And you have 14. Im not sure how many they are going to take to the world cup but Those would be the first 14 players I would choose.

Styris is not overrated, he is our best ODI batsman in my opinion. Vincent shouldn't be anywhere near the team with the form he is in, the ways he was getting dismissed in the Champions Trophy were ridiculous and he has barely scored a run for Auckland. McMillan is really pushing for a spot and I would like to see him back in the squad, I would prefer him over either of the Marshall boys.

TV1 News even managed to spell Stephen Fleming's name wrong tonight. No wonder he complains about the lack of respect the team gets in the media.

Last time was in Malaysia when Hussey captained, he usually gets rested during the ODI Series as well for atleast two games
Forgot about that ..but the idea with that tournament was to give everyone in the squad at least two games. It's not our normal policy. In fact, we abandoned it some time ago.

well in that case why Fleming is still playing county cricket in England? surely International cricket is more important, dont u think?

Sanga starting to free his arms. Looks like I picked a good time to turn on. Or rather the weather in Melbourne chose a good moment to turn wet.

Those have got to be the ugliest uniforms ever devised...what is NZ thinking?

Wow, this Lasith Malinga guy looks very promising. Seen him bowl lately, and TBH I am pretty sure many batsmen are scared to bat against him.

Is Perera playin just for laughs or what?
Yes he is. There's nothing funnier than a some who chucks and yet still gets belted around the ground - cheaters never prosper and all that jazz. It's the same reasoning behind NSW picking Aaron Bird.

Good win by NZ. Franklin and Mason bowled very well.
SL were struggling from the start . They got 115 because of Malinga and Dilhara .

Ruchira Perera is really struggling , one wonders why he is even part of the squad .

Atapattu and Mahela really need to get some runs badly ...

For the First ODI ,

I would pick-

Sanath J
Tharanga
Sangakkara
Mahela
Atapattu
Chamara Silva
Dilshan
Vaas
Malinga
Dilhara
Murali

I didnt see the game because Im overseas so can only probably catch highlights on youtube.

I was wondering how Gillespie went. Cricinfo said he went OK and had a run rate of only 4 . something so seems he did well. What did you guys think. I havent actually seen him play, I think ever?

DIlshan will be in the starting XI, it will be a contest between chamara and kapugedara for the final batsmans spot. Maharoof will be included as well I think instead of dilhara.
