***Official** Sri Lanka in New Zealand

NZ Tailender, you'll learn to ignore Jason's annoying nature soon enough. He's either insulting his own Sri Lankan team to a ridiculous degree, or claiming the umpires are biased or the opposition are unsportsmanlike etc. Best to just skip over the post.

The way Murali was run out from a NZ (or opposition in general perspective) is no different then running out a player who falls over when trying to run. One could argue its unsportsmanlike to run out someone who has fallen flat out on their face, but its part of the game. It was Murali and the umpire's fault IMO, more Murali though obviously. Far out when you've played that many tests you should know when the ball is dead and when it isn't.

Also, this is cricket at the highest level with players' futures and income on the line. Its easy to let the player off at club level or in a friendly match etc., but at the highest level with SL mounting a fairly decent 4th innings target on a tough pitch, you can't blame NZ for taking the wicket.

Good win by NZ. Entertaining test match, but crappy batting from both sides. Only Sangakkara, Fleming and Vettori were any good IMO. Cumming was alright but shaky.

This does mean that I don't ever want to hear any more Kiwi whinging about the underarm ball however :p

I'd add Vaas, Franklin, Bond and *gulp* Martin to that list.

Now that's just a ridiculous thing to ask for. That's never gonna happen.

I had something similar happen to me in a game and I spent a long time blaming everyone else before the realisation that it was probably my fault. The game doesnt stop for me and the umpire judges when the ball is dead.

Silly dismissal, not ideal, one that makes the batsman look foolish. but a dismissal all the same.

Saying all that, I dont think I would do it, but, despite the knot in my stomach, I cant really criticise those that would.
Yeah same here, but that's because I always play for enjoyment rather than winning. Plus, at the highest level, it's just sensible to take wickets no matter how they come. Not really anything to complain about IMO - Murali should've known better.

Im actually quite happy with the end result in that game. Sangakkara hundred will give all the batsmen a bit of confidence that if they can apply themselves they can score runs on these more seamer friendly pitches. The bowling of Murali and co really, i thought the other guys apart from Maharoof supported him pretty well, will give us confidence going into the next game. To take 5 wickets defending 119 is a pretty good effort really, NZ should have chased it down with 2 or 3 wickets in hand.

Now its all about getting the balance right for the next game, we need an extra batsmen, regardless of whether the pitch is another seamer or not. Five bowlers doesn't work for us, as one or two are wasted due to ineffectiveness. The extra keeper batsmen, doesn't work as he can't bat. Kappa not ready to bat anywhere but 6 or 7, he does have some slight technique issues, but his a match winner so he has to be in the side. Silva needs another chance, then should have has Samarawerra or Warnapura, but his scored runs at domestic level and his there now, so he needs another chance.

Not sure what to do with Maharoof, i can't see Dilhara or Ganegama bowl any better. Also some extra runs down the order could be handy. The no ball problem is major issue and Moddy needs to work over time to solve it and playing Dilhara will just add to it.

With Murali run out, thats just Murali for you, works his backside off to get Sangakkara to a hundred and gives us something to defend and when his done that its stops concentrating and gets out. I have no problems with McCullum or the Kiwis, your trying to win a Test Match, its not Park Cricket. If some losses concentration and walks out of his crease and then run him out. Another 20 odd runs and you never know, we could have won.

Bring on the 2nd Test, still disappointed its not a three match series.

Most neutrals would view it as a pretty crappy way of buying a wicket . I guess Maccullum follows in the elite company of the likes of Parore etc. so not surprising.
I am neutral and I think it was perfectly valid. It was Murali's fault for not knowing.

SL are really in for a pretty poor tour if they do not wake up and get their act together.

The rest of the tour will be lot of Green tops and low scoring encounters, without a doubt.
NZ specialise in destroying the confidance of subcontinental teams before World Cups and inflating their own confidance by using Underprepared pitches under the excuse of early season /lack of good weather etc. to pass them over the powers that be.
Under prepared? The pitch is fine. Produces good solid test cricket, its not the pitches fault if people aren't willing to stay on and score. And its not pitches fault about how many run outs SL had.

If the run-out happened to an Australian batsman, I`d probably make a fuss of it tbh.

Sangakkara, I am in your debt. What an awesome knock. That straight driven 4 off Shane Bond that flew over the umpires head was pretty amazing to be honest. One of the very best players to watch at the moment.

Arguably the best wicketkeeper-batsman in the world IMO. Ahead of Gilly at the moment.

Yeah, it is unfair that all this Murali run-out rubbish is taking attention away from Sanga. What a knock. A special performance.

Also well done NZ. Good to see Bond bowling and keeping his test av low

So you are not a Whingeing fan like Jason then....

You must be, going by some of the one-eyed posters on the previous page , who are mostly Kiwis except 2 Aussies - who I dont take musch note of, despite their repetitious garbage on several threads and their tendency to dominate the forum and several threads...you know who they are ..

35 wickets for a Total of 154+ 206 + 170+ 119 = 649 = 18.54 runs per wicket

If this pitch had been in the subcontinent - the ICC pitch adjudicator would have long been on the case.

The only people who should get in trouble are those who threw their wickets away. Sangakarra scored a 100*, no other SL batsman came close. Its ******** batting, not the pitch.
