I wouldn't label Oram as a batting allrounder. In ODIs, he's very much a front line paceman but in Tests his batting is more useful thanhis bowling. Will be interesting to see how Bracewell uses him in the Tests this year.

Not really, He will bat at 7and bowl first change just like he has for most of his test career.

I would favour him at 6 and bowling as the 4th pace bowler. I don't think he has what it takes to be a 3rd Test seamer.

Given that, for me anyway, this has been an incredibly boring series, do any of you guys think we've shown any kind of improvement this summer?

Replacing Oram (an batting all-rounder) with Chris Martin. That seems very strange if you ask me.
To be fair though, isn't Oram's batting record in ODI's a bit rubbish?

Yes, his batting ODI record is rubbish, but Oram is a far better batsman than what his ODI statistics read. He's a class batsman, just look at his Test record.

Didn’t even know Hamish was giving out handled, does it even say on a scorecard handled the ball or does it normally as in Hamish’s case go under LBW?

"To be fair though", 1034 runs at 18.46 is a lot better than 6 runs at 1.5...

I actually rate Oram's batting higher than his bowling. He doesn't have the best batting record as Voltman said, but remember he generally comes in at Number 7 and doesn't get the batting opportunities others up the order get. This is backed up by his batting record in test cricket.

It still surprises me that Oram can only manage late 120's, early 130's with the ball considering the size of the guy. Perhaps he needs a lesson from Andy Flintoff (similar builds) ;)

Even in helpful conditions Oram is a straight up and down bowler and when he come up against stronger nations on great batting pitches he's shown up everytime IMO. That's going to be the downfall of us in the World Cup 2007 I reckon, the same as it was in 2003. The weakness of 20/30 overs of our innings (Bond/Vettori aside). On the positive side, Mills seems to have come a long way with his bowling the past 12 months.

Wow that batting average of Orams really does not reflect his batting ability. It could also be that oram just bats mostly near the end of an innings I guess.
