How and Fulton played some good strokes; strokes which seemed uncharacteristic for New Zealand batsmen, but I hate seeing Sri Lanka play this badly. I've always had a lot of respect for the Sri Lankans, as our sides have been intertwined over the years. I hope they can make a series of this.

Personally I'd drop Cairns over Marshall. Marshall is our best fielder and a batsman who we need to get back in form.
Mate, don't feel sorry for them, because they have been playing pathetic cricket for 3-4 months now. In fact if you ask me they have been playing pathetic cricket all year (even against West Indies 3rd string side and Bangladesh) .

The coach who has been there for nearly a year, still pretends he has nothing to do with their performance , and gets handsomely paid for that !!

He also comes out with cliches at interviews , nothing original about him.

If you ask me he is out of his Depth at International Cricket and may be even at County Cricket he was probably barely managing at Worcester.

He gets far far better paid than SL's top players such as Murali, Atapattu, Sangakkara only to take no responsibility for the Team's performances and to come out with Cliches !! :D :D

I hope the Black Caps give this Team a real lambasting, because then at least they can get rid of the Coach and get Dav Whatmore back or a Sri Lankan coach who will inspire confidence in the Team .

I know some will say its the players who take ultimate responsibility for poor performances, but as a Sri Lankan I feel, the country is at the moment struggling with lack of talent coming through , and they don't need to waste a fortune on an expensive coach, rather a local coach can do a better job, while the money is diverted to domestic grassroots cricket.

IMO , SL is likely to struggle for a couple of years at least in transition and this is the best option for SL cricket. There are also other problems at the Cricket Board with long standing in fighting and corruption too. But I won't go into that and bore you even more . :D

We can't drop Cairns for a batsman, otherwise we would be relying on Styris as the 5th bowler and How as the 6th which isn't ideal.
That's fair enough, but, still, using Marshall as a super-sub isn't ideal. It'll have to be Fulton at this rate.

They were pretty good in the Indian Oil Cup.

But do we really need a specialist batsman as the super sub? Like the situation yesterday, Astle was a clog to the innings because we already possessed enough batsmen down the order. I would rather have an attacking batsman like Adams to strengthen our lower order.

He has contributed well in 2 of his 4 games since his comeback so why would we want to do that?
He hasn't done that well. One fifty and a 30 not out is not the greatest return with the bat, his bowling has been awful and he's dropped a couple of catches. I'd rather see How, Fulton and Marshall retained in the starting 11 and Cairns as the supersub.

its clear from watching Astle & Fleming that a straight out batsmen as a super-sub may not work because for the majority of the game they're resting their legs. So when they go to bat, they're not all that on to it.

At least with Adams, he's more of a dasher..you could chuck him in anywhere in the order and tell him to play some shots. He's not so much worried about getting set like other batsmen are.

Cairns bowled well in the first game IMO.

So you would be happy going into the game with Styris as the 5th bowler with How as the 6th?

I have no problems at all with Styris bowling 10 overs in an ODI, especially on NZ wickets.

You cannot claim originality for that, because you obviously copied it from Glenn McGrath who called Sanath J "a black Monkey ".

** May be Spider Monkey is different** :confused1

** Has anyone seen a Spider Monkey ? What does it look like ?** :confused1 :confused1 :D :D

I didnt copy sh*t from that idiot....just an observation on how they appeal

Sanath, Sanga, Atapattu, Dilshan all got out to stupid shots, there was nothing great about the deliveries they got (except Sanga).

How looks GREAT btw...very impressed

On another note, the Sri Lankans crack me up when they launch into one of their appeals

Styris bowling 10 isnt the main problem. The main problem is that Jamie How is the 6th bowler. Had Astle or McMillan still been in the side, it would be perfectly feasable to use this plan, but How as the 6th bowler is disasterous IMO.

Like you said, Styris has had a fantastic year with the ball. And I'm suprised Cairns was allowed 8 overs, while Styris got only 1. How is actually quite a handy off break bowler, and has done well for CD performing that job. If he develops that side of his game, he could prove a valuable option for the World Cup where the wickets will be slower, and also for games in the sub continent.
