Good one, vincent asked O'Brian to send out his spare trousers for Bucknor to wear, but they did not fit him.

Haha what? You`re serious? Odd...

Crucial 50 by Vincent, well played.

Still a draw AFI can see.

I hope Flem comes after Franklin and doesn't leave it too late .

Another thought - Do you think Flem will drop out of next Test from this injury (too little time between Tests ) and who would replace him then (batting wise I mean ) ?
I think it will be McMillan, and I think he will be captain. McMillan's the only one with FC captaincy experience and test playing experience available, our first 3 choices for captain would be Fleming, Vettori, Oram, but none will be available. Think McMillan would be the next choice, since Astle's never captained before.

Yep, you may be on the money there. If I was setting a TAB option....

* McMillan, $1.40 - got the score in the warm-up match, captaincy experience.
* Sinclair, $2.50 - did well at # 4 as a late replacement v. SA last season, a more direct swap in the side's balance than Macca would be.
* Fulton, $8.00 - the most deserving domestic stats, a chance for the selectors to offer a stepping stone to someone they're not already extremely familiar with.

I just don't understand why Fleming and Vincent didn't go after the bowling so NZ could set SL 260 off 45 overs. At least there would be another chance for the bowlers to improve their stats. And a few early wickets with that long tail makes the scenario interesting.

Maybe Fleming wanted to get into a bit of form before the 2nd test.

God I hope McMillan doesn't get near the test team for some time!!!

Bucknor killed the last chance of a SL win by giving not out to a caught behind off Mills, which even the guy on the street outside would have heard!!
Bucknor is both blind and deaf ,IMO !! :D :D

Anyway good on Fleming for at least coming and batting for his Team despite injury.

A guy who always carries himself with absolute decency and sincerity and commitment!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Sounds like it's a moot point now, with the word from the NZ camp being that there's no breakage and Fleming should be fine to play.

Congratulations Malinga on his first 5-for. Terrific effort considering the adverse bowling conditions in this test match.

Slight correction. Vincent is 6 foot, and Bucknor looks at least 6 foot 4

All over, red rover... The Test has officially been abandoned.

Let's hope for good weather and good light at the Basin Reserve next week. [Pigs might fly!]

It wasn't like that when i was there a couple months ago, cloudy and raining that was about it :p . No hint of sunshine untill the last day i was there :@ and that was summer. But i hope ur right cus these sides are pretty evenlt matched and if we get five days of crciket on a good pitch it could be really good test.

Unless there is an international cricket match on. I've seen weather spoil all too many games in Wellington over the years

Congradulations Malinga! Champion...
Pretty amazing bowling performance if you consider the pitch 4 wickets in the first innings when the pitch was the best to bat on, then 5 wickets in the 2nd innings. I think you can add another 140 plus bowler that has destroyed New Zealand now, they really seem to have problems with extra pace, maybe we should have picked Thursha 8-) . I hope they produce a pretty green pitch for the next game, Malinga would destroy them.

BTW Jason i had a look at the past scorecards for games at the Basin in the '00 and there have only been three games where spinners dominated, the game aganist RSA, one aganist England and Australia in 2000/01. The rest of the games quicks have taken majority of the wickets, Vettori's averages their is 43.8. With that being the case i would drop Chandana and bring in Shantha.

I agree with bringing in Adams - for Mills, who was just a passenger.

But Macca?!!! The guy turns the dial from genius to idiot every time he steps up from FC to tests. I would be happy if he never played for NZ again.

And who would Macca he replace? All except Cumming had one good innings. And Macca isn't gonna open. How or Fulton (unfortunately out of position) for me.

If Fleming is not able to play the 2nd test, Mcmillan is likely to come in and captain the side.
