Any context with them at 7 and 8 puts immennse pressure on the top 6 to perform.
Especially away from home, at home i think you can get away with it but away from home i have serious doubts. By having Chandana and Vaas batting at 7 and 8 you turn a potentail strength into a weakness. If they were batting at 8 and 9 that a pretty strong lower order.

Because the Prime intention of playing A Test Match should be to Win and not be avoid losing !!

And secondly , our key wicket taker is not playing and the others while capable of getting wickets need complimenting with another .

And thirdly our batting is pretty strong and the top 6 are pretty adequate for this opposition !!
We can get away with it playing NZ, but it will not work aganist other sides. We have to learn to cope without playing with Murali sooner or later and until Maharoof or someone becomes a genuine all rounder both at home and away, you are better off playing seven batsmen and four bowlers. Guys like Jaysuriya and Thilan are more then capable of taken a couple wickets a game and taking the pressure of the top four bowlers. I think any combination of four bowlers we have on tour plus Jayasuriya and Thilan are more then capable of taking 20 wickets to win a test, if the pitch isn't pacid like this one.

Hold the front page Sri Lanka get a run out, it was probably a stupid batsmen mix up but they still got them out. Any watch the game on TV, watch happened???

Astle out and NZ 5 down, 6 if you include Fleming, can Sri Lanka pull of something special.

Jaysuriya takes another wicket, McCullum gone caught Samaraweera. That 6 down none, we are getting closer if we're good enough.

Still a draw AFI can see.

I hope Flem comes after Franklin and doesn't leave it too late .

Another thought - Do you think Flem will drop out of next Test from this injury (too little time between Tests ) and who would replace him then (batting wise I mean ) ?

I would love to see Jamie How rather than Papps replace Flem, if it comes to that .

What do you guys think ?

Lead 211 . Can Vincent and Flem hold on till Tea ?

Or would Flem declare with a lead of 275 ?

I hope Fulton get a go in the middle order, he just keeps preforming for his State Shield and never gets a game. But i think after McMillan's hundred they may go for him  , if they go for a middle order batsmen. The other option is to go for How and drop James down the order. I think Jamie How with sqaud at the moment he came on fielded i think, when Sri Lanka were batting.

If Sri Lanka is good enough to take the next three wickets in about 20 overs (hopefully less) they should win from here. Vincent look the key to get out and maybe Fleming if he comes in now. If he comes in later then i don't think it will matter cus we should get the other guys out. If NZ loss this from getting 561 runs in the 1st Innings then they need to have a good hard look at themselves.

Chaminda, you have to also consider wheather the state of the wicket has changed for the worse. The last 3 sessions have accounted for 14 wickets. Sri Lanka is also capable of major collapses (hope not). Therefore I think any outcome is possible and the next session will tell the story.
