Oh wow his numbers have really taken a hit since I last checked, used to really rate him. He's currently in no-man's land where he's not making enough runs to be taken seriously as a top order prospect, and not scoring quickly enough to compete with phillips/mitchell/macewell.
Missing a couple of seasons due to border controls during Covid presumably hurt his development. I recall he was averaging over 50 in first class cricket before that. Hopefully he can regain that form.

Might be a controversial opinion as I would obviously liked to see BJ play, but I don't think it's a big deal that he didn't, and there likely is still a lot of benefit from being around the BC's environment for a short series. Get some nets and training sessions is, get adjusted to the different environment, then ideally next time he's in, he's ready to go.

If it was a full test tour or a few series in a row of lugging drinks, I'd feel differently.

I'd agree with the part around there being some benefit...although I'd think there's just as much benefit (potentially even more) to continue to hone his game in domestics, given off the top of my head he's played 10 or so career T20 matches. No doubt he gets to face top-level bowling in the nets, but it's the nets. He's going to get that in the IPL, too...a lot of batting in the nets without game play.

By chance. He didn't actually miss a single Auckland game. If he was from Otago he'd have missed a third of the season.

We will probably get a game. However conditions will be ghastly. Might get rain delays. Likely be be about 12 - 14c. You can certainly beat Wellington on a bad day.

Hard enough to get the kids along to a whole day at the cricket, but an impossibility when they're going to be grit-blasted by the Southerly all day. Will have to take this one in on the tellybox.
