How many catches did we drop?

So how we're talking about Jacobs...am I right in saying he won't be available for the Pakistan series because it falls in the IPL window?
Yes, the ***** have graciously decided to increase the IPL window by one week whilst keeping the number of matches the same. So it starts right after the Champions Trophy.

I doubt Jacobs will ever play for the Black Caps now that he’s been shunned by head selector Santner. On the plus side, we found out more about bright new talents Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell and were able to better assess their capabilities.

Not going to knee-jerk too much about big scores at Saxton but I don't think having three slippery 130kph new ball seamers, two of which who are highly swing reliant is viable in modern T20. We need to invest more in middle overs enforcers, although tbf I don't know if we're really producing any.

Probably Jacobs was a Sam Wells pick. I read somewhere in these threads that Wells is largely ignored by those who have their hands on the tiller.

I don't think Jacobs should have really been in the squad to begin with. Santner probably agreed.
That's probably right and why he didn't play... Santner is a new captain and wants to win every game. I get it, he's a competitive guy. But it seems like the left hand isn't talking to the right. Someone picked him, and either that person wanted him to play or they're truly naive enough to think being part of a squad is enough to improve your game. And I just find it so curious given BJ can't play the next T20I series.

I could forgive it if they wanted to, and could pick their best XI most times in T20Is. But they can't. A host weren't available in Pakistan last year, and won't be again later in the summer. How can you not value building depth and exposure under those circumstances? Both Smith and Jacobs should have played in Nelson.

Foxcroft is a weird one because on paper he looks like he's competing for Bracewell's spot but he's actually (to use a metaphor which has gone out of fashion) cake not icing. He likes to come in early and build an innings rather than bosh from ball one which isn't super useful for T20 team balance. I think that's why he hasn't gotten much of a go. I also don't think anyone believes his bowling will hold up at international level.

Not sure why Michael Bracewell should get selected over Dean Foxcroft say? Or give Ashok a go?
Bracewell showed with his knock in the first game, right? He's bowled pretty poorly, unfortunately.

And the selectors wouldn't know how Foxcroft goes because he's faced one ball in ODIs and wasn't picked in six games on a tour. Plus hd a pretty crummy domestic summer last time out and hasn't improved much this summer.

On the bright side, I watched the game in Alexandra the other day and he needs to go into the handsome cricketer thread. Big burly good looking boy, piercing eyes, holds himself with authority.

Foxcroft is only on the fan radar because he's South African born and was heavily pushed by kippax. His shots are pretty but his results are mid.

Plus Phillips, Macewell are better and Rachin has the highest ceiling.

Much like his estranged cousin, Macewell gets underrated in T20s IMO. His T20I bowling record embarasses him, though he is a good bowler who's used as a frontliner. And spin is king in T20s, obvs. Meanwhile his batting is Neesham-esque – on his day, he's really dangerous. He's not quite good enough to make the NZ side on batting or bowling alone, but he's fairly close. Good fielder, too.

If he was delivering the results he has been at 10 years younger, he'd be vaunted as a prospect and loved by CW. He's not 10 years younger, but he's still valuable to the team. I'm much more sceptical of his spot in the ODI side.

Yeah he's much more in the style of Mitchell or Chapman - a top/middle order batter who will bowl less and less at international level as time goes on. I don't know if he'll deserve an NZ spot in the medium term, but if he does it has to be as a batsman.

I'm not a Foxcroft fan either (apart from his smouldering looks) but I think his treatment typifies the way Stead and management have mismanaged players labeled to have ability, or have failed in consistency at the selection table

If you can average 20-25, strike at 150+ and be a reasonable matchup bowler, you're valuable to almost any T20 team. Mumbai and CSK have built their success off having guys like this at 6/7/8/9 because the odds off at least one of them coming off every game are very high, which in turns allows the top 4 to bat with less fear.

Oh wow his numbers have really taken a hit since I last checked, used to really rate him. He's currently in no-man's land where he's not making enough runs to be taken seriously as a top order prospect, and not scoring quickly enough to compete with phillips/mitchell/macewell.
