Hmm. To be honest I dont have anything against a farewell game.
Same here and Jaya deserves it. But the hilarious part is that while Maharoof played tests (who was pathetically short of class) he's not named for ODIs (which he has plenty of class). And no Vaas who has been the best ODI bowler in Premier league.

Yeah, same. If they'd decided to pick him on merit it'd be pretty stupid IMO but this doesn't bother me. ODIs have become increasingly pointless outside of major tournaments - if India can play an entire Second XI in games with ODI status without anyone caring, a long-serving champion can have a farewell game.
I love Sanath, but to equate giving him a farewell match (I seriously thought he was already gone and working as a politician  ) the same as the BCCI giving vital international away series experience to the future of their cricket team for the next 10 years is just wrong.

I don't think he's equating it, just saying that the stock of bilateral ODI series has dipped so much these days, so meh... let them do whatever they want. The next WC/Champions Trophy is so far off that they don't have to experiment with their team keeping that in mind.. so if there's a time for it, it's now.

Nah, the way he structured his sentence (and how I read it), Prince is suggesting that India playing their 2nd string XI in the ODIs is worse. Basically saying "if India can do this, then surely SL can do that". I don't think it is. I think flying a guy all the way to England for a farewell match is pretty extreme tbh.

jamodi. being one of the best ever to play the format, jaya deserves a proper farewell... eng anyway arent a great odi team.

Yeah tbh, I am not disgusted by the idea or anything. But its pretty random. Mainly because I thought he was already gone

England at home are a different animal to away in ODi's. i think they've only lost 1 series which was the one after the Ashes in 2009, in nearly 3 years.

Got thumped 6-1 by aussies in 09

Beat Bangers 2-1
Beat Aussies 3-2
Beat Pak 3-2

credit for the wins, but the win margins and strength of some of oppositions hardly suggest this team is a goliath or anything in this format tbh.

and weren't they thumped by sanath and co. only a few seasons back?

that said dilshan's absence will prove costly.

Didn't say the England team is a goliath and I also said we lost one series after the Ashes, just that some people keep saying how crap England are in this format but before the WC, there has been a steady improvement and we were winning series.
We also beat SA in SA,as well as Bang away and the last time we played SL was in the Champions trophy where we beat them , before that we beat the in SL 3-2.

BREAKING NEWS: Dilshan ruled out of third test, Arjuna Ranatunga named as replacement captain
Murali is already in England for some 20/20, Attapatu is the current batting coach, and Vaas is still match fit. Slot them all back in!
SL has a shot to tie this series.

tbh saw this coming once he played the tests. Was so garbage in tests that they would not be able to justify selecting him for the ODI's.

Such an unnecessary dig at England there. Doesn't make a difference how good we are.

Beat SA 4-0 on their last tour and beat the Windies in '09. India also lost here 4-3 on their last tour in '07, those those were very different sides.

No-one's claiming England are a "goliath" in ODIs, it's certainly not their strength, but the last few years' results suggest that they're at least a good side at home.

Finn's playing T20 this evening, I wonder if that's a selection pointer for the next test?
I wouldn't think so as KP is playing in two 20/20s for Surrey.
Bopara is captaining Essex against the Sri Lankans tomorrow. He averages 8.40 v SL and
17 and 29 in the Lions match recently.
