There's nothing known as irreparable damage in Pakistan cricket. They might as well come out a month or two later and thrash about teams, but that is a prediction only. If the previous three months are anything to go by then there is not much hope.
They have dissapointed in this tour. The attitude was amazing throughout, and it was just taking a beating lying down for us. The recipe to beat Pakistan is simple: consistency in the face of inconsistency.
It must be good to beat a team like Pakistan, for all their talent they are rated highly and yet go down in self destructive fashion, so its cheers for the opposition. Half of the credit for the losses goes to the opponent here.
Salim Elahi has failed yes, but he has not looked as bad as everyone thought earlier. With Taufeeq he has performed, if you were to blame the collapses then it would hardly be directed at either Salim or Taufeeq. It is batsmen like Youhanna, Inzamam, and Khan that need to be reproached, the rest are youngsters.
Taufeeq Umar is not an automatic selection for One days, he has proved that he is a capable Test batsmen, with a few tweaks his array of shots and his impulses can be improved, and you will have a fine test opener. As for Elahi, he is still living in the land 'o mist. He hasn't performed well, but the one win Pakistan salvaged was because of his innings. Besides Pakistan dont seem to have too many alternatives yet (Naved Latif is terrible with his technique as is Imran Nazir).
I still say that South Africa and Australia are the only teams that can be mentioned alongside Pakistan becuase there isn't a better yardstick, but the Pakistani 11 seems hell bent on not doing the necessary. No incentives and no punishments can mend that for them.
