Unlucky to Mahela Jayawardene but a wonderful innings from him. South Africa will rue dropping Sangakkara in single figures and then him been bowled off a no-ball two balls later.

nice gestures by the south africans
Absolutely , they are showing what great sporting people they are with their gentlemanly conduct and applause.

Afraid the same cannot be said for a certain South African fan on this forum for his pretty poor comments on Mahela , IMHO.

Ball supposedly kept low.
Exactly , in fact he has paid great tribute to Andre Nel and that particular delivery . He said , and I quote - " I am lucky I got that delivery when I was 374 and not when I was on 10 or 12 "

SA can draw this Test IMO , if they bat resolutely. Once any two batsmen get set in on this track , they could keep going for all eternity . Even Murali , a potent wicket taker he may be, could struggle in such an instance.

I predict a few SA centurions (possibly Rudolph, Amla, Prince, AB ) and a tight finish on Day 5 . Could be a draw. (depending on weather) .

Well Played Mahela. Absolutely Chanceless knock ,until his fall on 374 .

The Highest Score in Test Cricket by a Right Handed Batsman !!

Very well played. Its a small conselation, but I guess it is less heartbreaking to get out on 374 as opposed to 394.

He knows I am sure that he has had his only chance at the Supreme record in batting and has missed it . He won't get another chance . *Only Lara gets two chances at the record *

Good to see you are being your normal positive and optomistic self, Jason :)

Who is a better bat than Boucher though? Whats your alternative, I'd rather get rid of Hashim Amla
Dippenaar..

There's also the fact that Boucher still seems to make the side when Smith and Pollock are fit. I could see the logic in it when De Villiers was opening the batting, but with De Villiers down the order anyway, he might as well keep wicket.

Jayasuriya will be important, most of the damage on the wicket is in areas that would help a left arm spinner. If i remeber correctly last time SA played at the SSC it was jayasuriya that destroyed them with the ball.

well the weather's looking great, we're all set for a complete day's play here at the SSC. :D

You wouldn't have wanted to have said 'well done' or 'bad luck' when Jayawardene got would you? You might have had his bat wrapped around your head.

it was a big mistake not going in with two frontline spinners as I said when the test started. SA could very well draw this match.

Where's Gibbs gone? Are they keeping him in reserve for the fifth-day pitch?
They do not trust him. Its a sad state when the management cannot trust their senior player to bat in a method the match situation requires.

Gibbs has never been the smartest player in the world (cricketing and brain related) but he is a senior player and should be capable of batting like a pro. This means being able to adjust to the game situation.

Dinu did you see this on TV -

33.1 Muralitharan to Hall, no run, a big shout for a catch at short leg, spins in from outside the off stump, looking to play at that, the ball seems to have taken the edge onto the pad and lobbed up to short leg, turned down by the Umpire.
