next game should be good..

Basin reserve seems to be normally the best wicket/cricket ground in the country

Chris Martin has got to go to England...afterall he's just taken 10 wickets on a pitch which for the majority of the match has been a batting paradise.

If you look at the England lineup also...there are 3 left-handers in their top order..Trescothick, Butcher & Thorpe. I would actually consider playing Bond, Tuffey & Martin & leaving out Vettori if Bond & Tuffey are back to full fitness.

and what exactly did u mean when u said this??
You were starting to have a debate and then you throw in a silly comment about the NZ attack being rubbish when India's is no better or worse.

IMO u were trying to say that after smith played in england and Pakistan he is being tested by this nz bowling attack!!!
No I said he has punished rubbish bowling against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the West Indies.

No where did I ever mention it was in Pakistan with the captaincy with the bat if you noted the case with Bangladesh.

No where did I mentioned they were rubbish just bowled rubbish. Big difference.

This series has been a truer Test for Smith with the captaincy trying to out fox Stephen Fleming.

Try and come back with a response to out fox me. I think you cant.

I think Martin is a for gone certainty to go.

He booked his seat to go with his six wicket haul.

Martin isn't just effective against the left-handers, but he's also had some success against the right-handers.

Martin's seam position is just as good as it gets, and it allows him maximum swing and seam movement.

Just heard that Tuffey is out of the 3rd Test, so who will replace him? Mason? Butler? Or Anzac's fav () James Franklin?

Since Martin had so much success in his comeback, maybe Franklin can do the same...?

It'll probably be Butler, considering he had a 6 wicket bag at the Basin last time.

I wouldn't mind seeing Franklin play...he got 60 yesterday v S.L 'A' & I think his left arm just gives the NZ attack a little more variety.

Pretty overcast today...as long as it doesn't rain, NZ will have the ideal conditions to bowl South Africa out quickly.

S.A all out for 349...50 runs ahead.

Stubborn resistence by Boje..Rudolph tried his best to work with the tail, but in the end it's not going to be good enough.

Is Minki still in the area??? Maybe the Saffers got distracted :)

Richardson needs to sort himself out big-time. He's now stuck in the mindset of wanting to play both defensive & offensive and it's been clear in this test series that he's struggling to come to terms with it.

He's far better off playing the same style that has brought him previous success e.g. the Mohali test in 2003.

Fleming powers 31 off 11 balls, including a big 6 to finish the match off Boje....good statement, nice to see NZ showing they'll be ready for Wellington with a positive finish.

oh happy days......................:D :D :D

a thoroughy deserved Test win with NZ outperforming RSA in all aspects over the last 4 days..........

great to see those players under my spotlight all performing and putting in the effort - now some consistency please chaps........

NZ can not get too complacent going into the 3rd Test at the basin, but they are in the box seat to win this series now - NZ will need to loose the series as much as it will take RSA to win it, and I don't think Fleming or Bracewell will let the boys forget this........

there is still a job to be done.........

:D

I'm not so sure - I see Butler has only bowled 3 overs in the SRL 'A' 2nd innings - an injury?????

similarly Mason has yet to take any wickets in the match - with Mills, Franklin & Wiseman doing the business.............

Franklin may get the nod simply because it is his home turf, or Wiseman if they decide to play 2 spinners - they may decide to take the latter choice anyway rather than expose an inexperienced seam attack to the RSA batsmen who will be looking to go after them for the win..........

particularly with the number Pollock & Ntini did on him today.............

he's not having a good series and needs to show more in the 3rd test - it's almost as if he needs to relax a bit at the crease.........

if he misses out again at the Basin he'll be looking over his shoulder at Bell & How...........

Tim

It'll take a very long period of poor batting from Richardson before he'll be dropped mind you...I think he'd have to fail in England & then the next series in NZ before the selectors would even think about it.

I still think he's good enough..he's just got himself into a rut & im sure he'll work his way out of it, he's a very thoughtful player & he'll make the right adjustments.

Bell has played well against S.L 'A' but I still have nightmares about his technique from the 2001 tour of Australia...I'd personally like to see Jamie How or Tim McIntosh called up next.

Tim

I've said time & time again that we should play to our strengths & pick quick bowlers rather than 2 spinners.

What's the point of having Vettori & Wiseman in the same team when neither are taking wickets?
I'd like to see Franklin in with Martin, Oram & Cairns....Franklin offers plenty of depth with the bat at #10 & his left arm gives Fleming the option of a bowler who will bowl at a different angle.

But if Butler is fit, then it'll most likely be him because his previous effort at the Basin last year was pretty good.

anzac

agreed on both accounts.............

I wasn't meaning that the selectors will be looking to drop Richardson, but they will possibly look to the touring squad selections with his current form in mind..........

Bell has been scoring runs - I don't know if he has improved his technique..........if Papps scores some runs in the 3rd Test they may feel more confident to look at a non / inexperienced specialist as cover..........in which case How would have front running - Vincent still comes into the equation even if he is primarily selected for the middle order where he seems to be finding his feet..........

I'm just a bit concerned that Butler has only bowled less than a normal spell so far - not heard if he has any injury or not..........without him in the side C Martin becomes our only 'strike' bowler..........

I'd prefer to see Franklin get the nod - no secret there, but I'm aware that Braces likes a twin spin option if there is any hint of turn...........

he's certainly the best 'strike' partner for Tuffey since Bond has been out - I'm just a bit loath to ink him in after 1 match no matter what his figures are - I want to see him back it up at The Basin after this MOTM high..

at the very least he provides an option to Butler, who really needs to show some variety as opposed to back of a length bowling............
