Out St Heliers way...well I can't believe it, it's now really sunny & there's going to be a 33 over game.
I live out Whenuapai way. It rained a bit this morning, but that has currently died down. Its just overcast now. Is the weather meant to get quite bad really soon, all the bad weather reports of late have got me quite confused???

193/8. Not bad, but I think we needed a bit more than that. SA will at least have to score at 6 an over, which is never easy.

Good to see Harris make a 50. If this is his final innings for NZ, I might not have sucha bad memories of him. He played really well. None of that boring pushing, poking crap that we had become used in the past couple of months.
We got 194/8 but it's probably 20 short.

But man are there tensions around both camps, McCullum and Kallis had a decent grudge, and Fleming and Smith were going at each other at the start of the innings as well.

Let's hope Harris can back up his innings with a fine bowling display.

The forecast always said that the afternoon would be fine.

HARRY YOU BEAUTY!!!!

CATCH OF THE SUMMER!!! THATS FOR SURE!!!!

WOW!!!!
'nuff said.

Harris showed everyone today that I'm right, and he should be in the NZ squad more.Experience+batting+bowling+fielding=Chris Harris. He also has a knack of rescueing NZ.

Wow,by selecting harris the slectors have showed my that they are starting to pick up on the "pick the good ones and the experienced ones" thing.

Jeez, when I say that Harris should be given another chance in the squad,am I talking to myself?

EDIT:so long,klusener.

Klusener is GOOOOOOONE.

And another pinch hitter is in - Albiel Morkel.

SA gotta be careful, they will need their strikepower at the end.

What a strange thing to say! As Steve Waugh said, people get far too sentimental about "going out on top" and stuff like that.

Besides, it's not like Harry's 40 yet or anything. He's in what can often be the best batting years of a player's life, and as he showed today he's still capable of some magic in the field.

Unlike Parore who went away to pursue other interests (which he's perfectly entitled to do), NZ cricket should be glad to have old heads like Harry stay around as long as possible. He may not be a first choice selection in every game any more, but that doesn't matter IMO. English cricket probably has a few too many wily old-timers sticking around their scene, but NZ don't have nearly enough.

Hmm... so what happened on the last ball? I thought it went straight to the fielder but Cricinfo reports a boundary...

I also wonder why Vettori didn't get a bowl...

Good match, though.

It did go to Cairns, but he just left it so he can celebrate with his mates.

Mills almost screwed up again...

But Harry! What a game for him! Ripper of a catch and saved our innings.

Chris Cairns is back to his best with ball and bat. No doubt.

And what an true allrounder Jacob Oram is turning out to be, changed the tide for us when the South Africans were just cruising in the first 5 overs.

That confrontation between Smith and Fleming was one to treasure...

Yeah, that time Mills definitely choked in a more textbook way. I think he saw McCullum and co. celebrating with 4 balls to go and just tried to 'put it there' without wides or no-balls, which is the worst thing you can do.

As for the game, I have to say it was a pretty contrived way to clinch a series. Probably better than no game at all (unfortunately I let my day get scheduled by Tim's prediction!), but I think it was the umpires and flaws in D/L that really cost SA a better chance.

D/L takes no account of how long your batting line-up is, or how good the batsman are that have been dismissed. Effectively SA were punished for their poor meteorology by bringing in Albie Morkel. I reckon they should've played through that shower anyway.

Don't get me wrong - Cairns and Oram bowled really well. Both are looking much smoother in their approaches and had good accuracy at about 140k.

It reminded me that we can be a bit harsh on Oram. From what I can gather he only really took up bowling in his early 20's, and was always said to be a good chance to improve further in terms of pace and bowling savvy.

You guys know it won't be, right?

I predict Bracewell will say he can learn from the experiences, he was the only one to put his hand up, 4 off his 2nd to last over was excellent, etc.

Kyle Mills career as a death bowler is OVER.
No it isn't.

He bowled well at the death when it mattered, and the last two balls didn't, because the game was already won.

Did you not see his last two overs? Perfect yorkers.

Did you not see him get carted? If someone can concede that many runs then there's something not going right.

One day with less needed off the final over he will lose it.

Well could you suggest a better option then?

Mason got carted around as well.

Look, Mills has shown he can bowl yorkers. So why not perservere with him? He can't get any worse.
