Big innings needed for neesham here. Should be his last odi for a while unless he scores big. Has never really played an odi innings of significance yet and his bowling is horrendous.
Batted pretty well for his 74 in Australia and his 48 against them at home, though overall agree that more significant inning are needed. Has 347 runs at 31.5 since his return to this side last October. IMO looks a better batsman now than he has previously, though definitely shouldn't bat below six as he's not good at hitting early in his innings.

Broom still deserves his place. He is a good number 5, rotates the strike. From memory he played well at eden park too so he has had 3 low scores and people want him out already?
I don't think he does rotate the stroke enough for a 5, Broom is often 3-4 off 12 deliveries and then catches up later, if not dismissed. At 5 you need someone who rotates from the outset.

Looks like NZ are settling for 280 here, highly unlikely SA don't get that in a canter with the class in their top 6 & strength & depth of their all-rounders, just not proactive enough.

Meanwhile Harris saying how positive NZ have been all innings..
Willamson and Taylor are damned if they do, damned if they don't here with the way our lower order has been going. Getting to 200 after 40 overs has traditionally been pretty good and if we had some of our best finishers from the past we'd be looking at close to 300. As it stands, I'd be happy with 280 from here.

Id be happy with 290. People under rate our odi bowling attack , especially as its looking a similar pitch to hamilton

Jeez I'd be happy with 280 too, another over with 2 off goes by. I'm not criticizing the Taylor/KW partnership either, they did well, I'm filthy what's happen since then, I think you need to be proactive and take a little risk when you're up against a quality line up like SA,

Sorry but "Last 5 overs 19/0 RR 3.80" just ain't good enough in ODIs in 2017.

Agree that we shouldn't be scoring just 2 off the 40th over; Taylor in particular is becalmed. Only four wickets down so despite the lower order weakness, can afford to launch now.

Good from Neesham - can be damaging now he's in. Taylor should be hitting out too by now. Even as the anchor he really needs to be on 80 from 92 here, not 70.

Edit: and he was 53 from 63 at one stage, so it's been an appreciable slowing. Helpful boundary there though.

Phehlukwayo definitely seems the bowler to target here. Hittable pace and not as experienced - want 10s from his remaining overs at least.

So what's the consensus on what's a good score here? 280/290?

Seems like a pretty good innings from Jimmy. Really reckon he has to come in ahead of Colin in the test squad.

Well played Neesham. So not a total waste of space in this innings. As sad as it sounds I hope taylor misses out on a 100 here. One of his worst innings. Dont know what he has been doing last 7-8 overs with no intent

300+ would have been competitive.

280-290 is nowhere enough against a SA side which bats this deep.

Really well-paced innings from Neesham - came in at a good time, worked himself in at a decent strike rate of 80ish, and has accelerated well.

Unsure as not watching, though it seems that it was tricky to score earlier in the innings. That said, Tahir went for 1/61 off 10 so it's hard to be confident that our spinners can restrict through the middle overs like we want them to.
