In general, he has a very good technique...comparable to any batsman, not just lower-order batsmen. His batting could really be excellent if given the change to prosper.
Well, he's getting his opportunities. He really is becoming quite a useful player in the team. Something which India has needed for so long and thought they had found in AA.

He lacked power.

When has Sehwag ever done well in the middle-order when pushed down? They tried it at least five times, and it was a dud. If he can't score as an opener, what can he do in a position he's not used to?
Sehwag first came into the team as a middle order batsman and should have no problem in there. That said..I dont think he has consistently played in the middle order in last 3 years to be considered a dud there. One match here and one there dont prove anything.

In any case I dont care where he bats as long as he is able to score runs. If he isn't able to score as an opener then I would like someone who can score. Obviously that's IMHO.

I dont think it would make a big difference to the way Sehwag bats whether he bats top of the order or in the middle order.

Whats wrong with Sehwag batting in the middle order today ? Its the right thing to do. In order to take advantage of the dewy conditions, it was essential that India keep wickets in hand, or sacrifice the lesser ones only early on, which is exactly whats happened.

Sehwag finally getting his act right. A well made 54 of 48 balls coming in middle order. looks like he is going to walk away with the man of the match award.
tendulkar has to really apply himself and be a bit more consistent. Match going india's way all the way.

So, India put paid to yet another winning streak.... First Australia with their 17 tests in a row, now SA with 20 (?) ODIs..

Plus Bangalore once again witnesses a Sehwag resurgence... the same venue where he first came into prominence with a quick 50 against Australia in the first ODI in 2001, batting in the lower middle order. I knew him back then as a bowler who could bat a bit :p

It can be a co-incidence..even though SA were unbeaten for 20 ODIs, they had won only 17, 1 was tied and 2 were no result. :D

Then also he was rated very highly by Dravid and it was only on his insistence that Ganguly(and wright) got him into the team..I so hope that he performs consistently in ODIs..

Exactly.

Personally, I'm delighted that the streak has come to an end before they broke the record of the Aussies around 2003. I know that records are meant to be broken, but it ought to be by a better side.

this is impressive...and the indian team seems to be shaping up well...way to go chappell and dravid....now pathan needs to translate these non-minnow performances into the tests....sehwag finally among the runs....tendulkar needs to buck up and score some soon...didn't see the match but 2 from 22 sounds like he was in woeful touch...
