I was going through this thread, and there are two points that I'd like to make.

Sachin's tax exemption. I believe it was a gift. I'm not sure if there's an entirely huge technical difference between "gift" and "award", a tiny one maybe. But, I think Sachin asked for the exemption on the basis that other players have been allowed to do so, maybe on lesser expensive items. I wouldn't consider this to be a blot on his name, and his comparison wasn't entirely ridiculous. Sure, he could have paid the tax, he has enough money for that. But just because he asked for the exemption, doesn't make him a lesser being.
In his letter to govt SRT gave references to Shastri's Audi exempted from duty..the difference is Shastri won the Audi when he was declared 'Champion of Champions' or smoething after his performance in Australia..whereas Sachin's Ferrari was a gift from FIAT, a brand he was endorsing then...

To me they are two different. If you think there is no difference between these two instnces..then well what can I say ?? Lets agree to disagree as I dont want to get into this stupid discussion again.

anyways here are some details on the issue :-

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/DJ03Df04.html

"...Members of the Sachin Tendulkar Fans Association, based in the Mumbai suburb of Bhayander, are planning to raise Rs 5 each from Mumbai dwellers. The money thus collected will be used to help pay the customs duty on the car should the government be forced to backtrack on its controversial decision...."

Another point is the whole Tendulkar - God thing. I'm not sure why people get peeved when he is called God, especially bringing the point that we don't call Rahul Dravid anything, despite his heroic efforts for the last 4-5 years. Well, we do have a word for him too, don't we? The Wall. Every time he rescues us, or defies a bowling attack, don't we say the opposition ran into The Wall? But everytime he gets out cheaply, we don't say that The Wall Crumbled. I'm sure if Dravid was seriously injured, and missed a lot of matches, people would say The Wall is Standing Again when he came back.
Point is SRT's performance has nothing to do with injury...and to me obviously there is a difference between 'GOD' and 'Wall'. The adjective wall can be compared to the 'Little Master' or 'Master Blaster' etc etc adjectives given to SRT..but I dont like it when media uses phrases like 'God is back' and starts writting idiotic details..'Oh SRT suggested this' ...'It was SRT's idea', 'Yahoo, he is back'... in their attempt to golorify him. I dont think we need another hero worshipping..we have enough going on in Kolkata.

In any case..I have said all on this matter and I dont think I will be posting much on this again.

Washout tomorrow..

I believe a washout is predicted tomorrow, which might lead to an eventual tie.
I suspect that might take the last breath away from this dying forum . C'mon guys, there are hardly any posts here.

Probably because of how exciting, and ridiculously controversial the Pak v Eng series is right now. People are too caught up in that :p

Bleak chance of play at Chennai

11.50 am There has been intermittent rain through the night, and the weather this morning is overcast with almost no sunshine. There are wet patches on the outfield at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and even if the weather should improve dramatically, the possibility of play starting on time is remote.

Let's hope the weather improves enough that there can atleast be a game, even if it is shortened, it would really be sh*t if there's no game! Nobody wants the possibility of this series ending in a tie!

Chances of play are looking slim...certainly not a full 50 over game I think.

What is wrong with the BCCI(among other things)? Rain played spoilt sport in October 2003 and October 2004 at the same venue( vs NZ and AUS respectively). Do we have to have 3 more washouts before it dawns on them that Oct-Nov might not be a good time to host a match in Chennai?

Blame the rotation policy!

Whatever it takes!!!
Yes, Chennai in March April is a much better option, even February may be. I don't think the BCCI should give in to all requests of the ECB, but it would be fun if England played a test here. I would love to meet Freddie, KP and the others. :)

The next match this Friday should be a fantastic one. Eden Garden is one of the most spectacular grounds in India. I just hope the crowd does not behave as unruly as they have in the past. And I think this is one ground where Sachin has not scored a century. Not that Sachin is the be all and end all of Indian Cricket..No, He is the one all and end all of all the cricketing world!

Okay. Time to find tickets tomorrow then!

Eden Gardens. I have watched so many memorable matches there. Many for the right reasons. Some for not the right reasons.
