I guess NZ played SA into some good form.
May be they are a better team than many of us are giving credit. I was impressed by their performance against a rejuvenated indian team.

Is this going to happen in every Indian series thread?

There are many positives to be taken from this defeat to South Africa. The mere fact that we lost 3 world-class batsmen (sehwag, tendulkar, dravid) for a total of 11 runs and 2 other solid ones for another 2 runs and still managed to put up a total of 249 tells something about this side. From 33 for 5, Yuvraj, Pathan and Harbhajan rescued the innings and made a match of it. Just think about that ... 249 runs, with those 3 guys doing nothing and the likes of dhoni and yuvraj getting run out foolishly ... talk about potential.

South Africa's seamers should be given credit for bowling well early on, but the dismissals of Kaif, Dravid and especially Gambhir were terrible. Sehwag was out to some extraordinary fielding by Prince, and Sachin apparently wasnt even out (he has been lunging at too many of those deliveries unsuccessfully though, its a problem). Pathan bowled very poorly but Agarkar was solid for the most part with some bad balls as usual. RP Singh was very good again, and Harbhajan was economical but he needs to be able to take big wickets for India too. I would say we should rest Pathan to make him realize he needs to bowl like a genuine strike bowler if he wants to retain that role in the team, but he has also been carrying the load with the bat.

Looking forward to the Indian batting rebounding in the 2nd ODI, should be exciting.
Well written dude.

Seven bookies were arrested for taking bets on the outcome of the first international cricket match between India and South Africa at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, police said on Wednesday.

Police said nine mobile telephones, 11 radio wireless sets and a computer were recovered from the suspects who were allegedly caught accepting bets.

Betting on cricket matches is banned in India and police had been on alert for South Africa's current five-match tour of the country.

In 2000, Indian police had charged then touring South African captain Hansie Cronje and four others with match-fixing.

Well, Sanz, it seems to me that you just like to argue...and you have this kneejerk anti-SRT reaction because you just want another excuse to argue...
Well Dasa..I didn't want this discussion to go this way either. In any case, Since most people on this forum didnt take well my stance on SRT's performance in big games, I would keep those views to myself and refrain from posting it on the forum.

Also, I take this time to apologize to all the SRT fans on the forum who were offended by my statements and to everyone else who I caused inconvenience by engaging myself in fruitless and meaningless discussions.

Graeme Smith's India Tour Diary :)

" ...the new kid has been calling himself Harbhajan since we arrived, and talking in a bad India accent, and this morning he appeared in the dining room with a turban he'd made himself..."

"...Had a surprise visitor this morning — Sourav Ganguly, the old Indian captain. Was very friendly, if a little weather-beaten — unshaven, slightly shabby looking, and appeared to have slept in his clothes, although I'm sure that's not the case. He asked me quite a few questions about how I'd got rid of Ray, and muttered something about filthy Australian scum..":laugh:

Chappell talk

"..All teams are a challenge. South Africa are on the rise and their recent one-day record is very good. But we know that they're beatable, and I have no doubt that we'll win some games in this series. I won't say that it's a bigger challenge, just a different one..." ... 8-) 8-)

Yeah right coach...talk about being politically correct.

well he cant say "i have no doubt that we'll win every game in this series", that would be wrong.

and he cant say "i have no doubt that we'll win this series", that would be an optimistic lie. plenty of cricket still to be played against a tough SA side.

whatever..that sounds pretty negative and defensive approach to me especially after just one loss. I am not looking for any bold prediction or anything..atleast say something like the series is still open and we will try to win the series or just dont say it if you are not confident in your team's abilities..

anyways..we will know it today (and throughout this series) if last performance was just an aberration or that we really aren't as good as it was made out after our win against SL. I hope it isn't the later.

Yuvraj Singh recognises the need to be consistent. A good sign.
To be honest, I think he has been very fluent throught this season and I have been saying it all along. Except for a sequence of about 3 or 4 matches in a row against Sri Lanka, he has looked good whenever he has been batting and I sort of had the feeling that consistent runs from his blade was something that wasn't too far away. I hope I am proved right, for a change. :)
