*Official* South Africa in England Thread

I have my doubts anbout Kirby and England dont have a left-arm seamer of Test standard.

South Africa 401-6

Rudolph with another failure of 0 and Boucher for 8 although he was a tad unlucky.

Kallis has made his 50.

I feel South Africa have done enough to at least draw this match now, although if England score very very quickly they could open the match up again.

SA all out for 484 - Pollock and Ntini shared a last wicket partnership of 52 before Anderson finally bowled Ntini.

Sad facts for England: 3 wickets were run outs
Best England bowler: Bicknell 2-71
SA on 484, yet seven batsmen disappeared for less than twenty runs. If a couple of these (McKenzie, Rudolph, Boucher) also pick up their game, England could face a target of 700.

If Trescothick and Vaughan can play well in the opening, and the top order keeps cool, then maybe England has a chance...England right now at 14/0, Vaughan at 13*, the 14th run was a noball...England need to give Trescothick a rest!

Edit: Smith catches Vaughan for 23. England at 28/1. Pollock's 300th test wicket - congrats to him and SA who will win easily...

Realistically I would give them about 20-30 years.. The whole cricketing cultures are miles and miles apart, and it will take that long to repair the damage...

i thionk it all begins with the failure of the youth systems...over here..its first come first serve to get into clubs, nothing about ability every match the batting order is turned upside down...and the state of the pitches is absolutely poor...whereas in AUS, its said that kids play only in artifical pitches to gain experience and knowlege so the bounce and movement and pace wouldt be too much of a variable..where as england its im quoting a coah in my club

" ok, mate youve got two choices, 1] bang it in and scare the sh*t out of the batter or 2] try your f****** hardest to keep it on the off stump and not give him any room...allright otherwise im gonna tell the Jay to take you out, got that?"

he was talking to one of our pacemen who wasnt even bowling that badly infact he reminds me on flintoff in his action and results, he just gets hit unluckily for fours now and then [usually of edges] ..and Jay is the captain, Jay is short for Jerome [me]

anyways the district coahes arent alot better if at all, they have one aim and that is to win nothing at all about strategies or help with skill and techniques, they just organize everything and expect the club coaches to train us..

im absolutley applaed at this and actually want to know if this is commion practice and if i am out of place to complain...

If I were you in that situation then I would already have turned round and given the "coach" a volley of abuse.

As a coach myself I would never hope to take an aggressive approach towards a player - and a junior player, too - unless he had a huge personality/attitude problem and/or blatantly wasn't trying - not in that case for certain.

In defence of district coaches - I know the NE Lincs coach is nothing like that but I can't speak for the rest of the country. I know from painful experience that a lot of other teams seem to have an attitude of victory through whatever means possible - great big slogs mostly - rather than the development of cricket and playing proper shots..

Your "coach" has probably broken the ECB Coaches' Code of Conduct in more than one place so you are well within your rights to complain.

He could do well to remember that it's a lot easier for a coach to destroy a player than to improve him.

As for pitches, I've seen some dismal artificials and excellent grass pitches as well as grass wickets that make you soil your pants and artifical paradises.

Johnson is fit enough to play for Somerset, but not England, afaik.
Can't work out why though - he's only played once and got wickets - so why not select him when others are injured or struggling?!

He bowled 27.4 overs the other day, the most by any Somerset bowler in that innings. I think he's fit enough for England. I think England have just decided to ignore him instead.
I've worked it out - it's a long term plan.

By not selecting him, he won't get hammered, so will be the one confirent bowler we have for the Winter!!!

Well, has anyone got a better answer? ;)

You're trying to logically work out what the selectors are thinking? Have you learnt nothing over the course of the summer? :P

It all depends on how good the replacements for the current batsmen really are.

If none click then they will lose 2 or 3 at once...

Coaches should treat players with respect and viceversa, As for Lincolnshire cricket it is on the up, with the under 17s winning promotion and the first team winnning the minor counties championship
