You'd think of all the English pitches the oval would suit Stokes best. Couldn't recall him making a score before however, but having looked it up it's only his second match here.

At any given time, if he's not bowling, it's probably safe to assume he's off.

Good ball to be fair, but not really a need to play.

Decent little innings, but JB needing some bigger runs soon.

One more before lunch and SA take another session. Probably about honours even with 2 down.

I can't get past the fact that this is being played at the Oval, so anything under 350 is well under par.
I'm happy to have that opinion reviewed when SA are batting.

The ball was hooping all over the place yesterday. It seems to me there's always something in this pitch. So I think batting first 300-320 is okay, 350 puts you ahead of the game as you SA basically have to score 400 to even the game up given they're batting last. The pattern of the first two Tests has been things have snowballed and the team batting last has ended up getting crushed.

You'd have to be pretty bad in the field to concede a big total given what the ball is doing, there's always something in it. England have made South Africa earn their wickets so far this innings, which you can't really say about the last Test.

Yeah the ball has swung consistently, but it's still a good deck. We do need about 80ish more for par I'd say

I don't think 300 is an awful score, the way this match is going.

With time taken out for rain, South Africa aren't going to have time to bat England out of the game. Plus, it's enough runs that an early wicket or two - and you'd expect Anderson to find some movement - the pressure will build.

Not to mention that with Moeen and Stokes out there, the scoreboard could suddenly start moving very quickly.
