Nah but you're not getting it, the reason why he's their best batsman is because he's allowed to accumulate every time he's in, and he does that by ensuring he has spots to hit singles in to. He has to take that risk to play the way he plays. SA had the luxury of being able to squeeze the single because they had already got top order poles. Morgan felt he needed to seize the initiative, he just executed his shot horribly. You wouldn't see him play that shot early in his innings because he normally wouldn't need to. It's one day cricket, this happens.
I do get it. Just don't think it needed to be done second ball.

Eventually he had to go over the top; but facing ten dot balls in a row (which he's too good to let happen anyway, IMO, even with the field up and him not looking to go over the top) and at least beginning a partnership is a better way of going about it - even if it means that he's got conditions further sussed out, how much it's turning, the best place to take Duminy/whoever on - and increases his chances of being in at the 40th over, which should be the guy's aim in every ODI because he's as good as there is in that situation.

Sheesh this is poor stuff, Tredders and Jimmeh just needed to stay in for Woakes, but they both get out to Robbie P, playing horror shots.

Yes because clearly a run of 12 wins in 13 completed games in the year is abysmal.
Feel free to name a weaker side that's topped the one-day rankings. Admittedly that will require you looking beyond simple stats and actually evaluating what's going on out there. Which doesn't make them abysmal, which is why I didn't use the word. Simply the least good to find themselves top of the rankings.
