International Debutant
I think you're quoting a pre-oval average there chumNot likely seeing as he's 33 now with a 185 wickets at a test average of 28 after 42 matches. He'd have to average about 50 from now on to finish on 35+.

Good post... but if you're going into pure stats, all sorts of interesting comparisons can be made, e.g. with ponting who is averaging 41 in his last 58 tests.. Strauss averaging 40.5 from his last 58. Even Collywobble averaged 41 in his last 58 tests. And that master batsman Vettori 38. Statsguru, the great equalizer. Lord Zaltzman will be pleased...There is actually an argument to be made that Strauss is simply a middle of the road test batsman whose record is padded by his stellar first 12 months

86 tests is a bloody big sample size
He has also cashed in against the poorer test attacks with Bangladesh, India New Zealand and West Indies being the only teams that he averages more than 40 against

yes thank you for the stats. strauss is a gentleman and a decent captain but that cannot alone justify a place in the xi. players with a bit of ego and performance are obviously going to question his authority. There is actually an argument to be made that Strauss is simply a middle of the road test batsman whose record is padded by his stellar first 12 months

I think, as Bumble said, the fact Bairstow was warming up with the gloves is a clue as to where he's most likely to play later.Shame Bairstow can't get a game. Would happily dump Bell, Trott or Bopara given Bairstow's good form. Can't see the batting lineup changing either during the series. They won't drop Trott or Bell and Bopara is too important given he gives England a decent 6th bowling option
As well as we've done recently, I'd be happy to see all of Bairstow, Taylor and Buttler in the team. Looks like an exciting middle order, and I'd say quite likely to appear at the next WC. Ha, yep. More rain. Honestly, what a ****hole.Wales showing why it's had a lock on "The World's Worst Principality" award for several centuries.
Play due to start on 12.45, but seeing is believing.
Nah surely if a ball isn't bowled it doesn't count as a match.Ha, yep. More rain. Honestly, what a ****hole.
3.30 the cut-off for play to start, apparently. Reckon we'll be lucky to see any cricket. Would Elgar be the first cricketer to "debut" in an ODI with no play possible? As there's been a toss, it counts, as one understands.
Wiki (usual health warnings apply) seems to agree with me.Nah surely if a ball isn't bowled it doesn't count as a match.
Surely.
Wikipedia said:The umpires call of play marks the official beginning of the match. If the match is abandoned at any time after the toss, it stands as a match played and enters official statistical records. If a match is abandoned before the toss, it is not considered to have been played at all, and does not count for records.
Cricket in counter-intuitive rule non-shocker.Disgrace. A loss for common sense.
Yeah, a city on the coast with a couple of thousand miles of ocean to the side where the weather comes from isn't the best place to try to stage a cricket match at the back end of summer. DOH!Wales showing why it's had a lock on "The World's Worst Principality" award for several centuries.

Well at least we managed to tick off that box.Nah surely if a ball isn't bowled it doesn't count as a match.
Surely.
Darren Sammy was the first!Ha, yep. More rain. Honestly, what a ****hole.
