I've posed this question on the other thread, but I'm going to repeat it here - has Pietersen ever been treated for narcissistic personality disorder & if not, why not?
Doesn't really meet the criteria; without being in his home or in the team, one big component apparently missing is the malicious, pervasive sabotage of inter-personal relationships. Exhibitionism isn't enough, lack of empathy, aggression, etc. are all components of NPD. KP strikes me more as a bloke who wasn't told I love you often enough by Dad.

Bit of a bull**** 1st world illness anyway and it's unlikely to survive in the DSM-V in its current form.

George Dobell said you lot just sort of mentioned it to the press. Not the ECB this time.

Also funny that this statement about it not being a big deal, comes after KP is axed isn't it?
The Proteas deny sowing division in the England dressing room by leaking the Kevin Pietersen text messages.

This after insinuations by England great Mike Atherton that the South African camp leaked KP’s text messages to get the SA-born batsman dropped.

Atherton, writing in his column, said part of the England selectors’ reasons for dropping KP was that it would prevent SA from releasing further information about the texts.

He says: “The fear would have been the ability of South Africa to release any potentially damaging information during a Test match, just as they shrewdly released the texts into the public domain in the first place.”

CSA released a statement that denied any malice, while others laughed it off.

Dale Steyn, implicated as one of the recipients of Pietersen’s messengers along with AB de Villiers, brushed it off by saying: “Ag, who cares?”

Meanwhile, Proteas batsmen Alviro Petersen, Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis are all expected to shake off injuries to be fit for the final Test at Lord’s, which starts on Thursday.

SA lead the series 1-0 and will dethrone the English at the top of the test rankings if they avoid defeat.
I think I will trust CSA over the ECB and Dobell. Afterall, wasn't it Pieterson who said someone inside the ECB is releasing info to the media, prior to this sms scandal ;)

A few problems with 5 bowlers.

A) Only two at a time.
B) Increases the chances of having to bat twice
C) Makes it harder to push for a win by upping the run rate.
D)Generally worsens fielding.
E) Reduces accountability

@Valer

A) Only two at a time - makes them hungry for the ball
B) Increases the chances of having to bat twice - if your 6th batsman is going to get out for 23 runs or something then this is not a point for or against 5 bowlers.
C) Makes it harder to push for a win by upping the run rate -
D)Generally worsens fielding.
E) Reduces accountability - In a book I read 30 years ago it said you should give as many players a bowl as possible each saturday because each bowler to get the ball to hit the top of the stumps needs to land it in different positions on the pitch, some fuller, some shorter. The book argued that many pitches will behave differently for different bowlers as a result of having different target areas.
Beyond what the book says - some days a bowler is just "on" so the more choices you have the better.

This said usually I favour 6 batsman if you have 6 good ones.

Pros:

A) Lets your 'top' bowlers have an extended rest, without as large a drop off in quality.
B) Increases the chances of bowling them out twice.
C) Makes the batsmen accountable for their actions.

IMO there isn't a huge issue with fielding - even Finn is competent, and Bresnan/Anderson/Swann are all good fieldsmen.

so how did private texts between KP and whichever SA players he was texting get into the public domain. You would think it was either KP or the South African player? Well KP is ******** but he is hardly going to leak to the press that he's been sending texts to South African players that are derogatory about england personnel. Which suggest that the simplest conclusion is that this came through the SA camp.

South Africa taking every edge they can find.

Surely can just be chinese whispers, eg. the player who gets the text tells another "you'll never guess what KP just sent me"... and it going on from there.

The journalist on the radio yesterday said there was nothing at all malicious from the saffas in terms of the texts getting out.

LOL

Is that important how it went to public domain? Who allowed KP to do it in the first place?

Somebody explained this a few days ago...

a) sms reached @ a certain player and due to their own patchy recent history the player rushed to the management to show it to avoid his involvement in anything
b) management then went to ICC referee to notify / alert them of the incident

Whats the big deal if the SA camp released the info cause they did not want to get involved in anything silly or stupid? Its ECB and KP who created this circus and would be silly to blame anyone else for the whole farce.

Reading that article they didn't deny releasing it, and how would the ECB know?

Agree with all this, particularly A, seen us look very tired in the field a lot of times recently. Swann's injury problems not helping.

No-where did I say it was anything but KP's fault. Read through my posts.

And please could you link me to an article saying that the reason this was leaked was because SA were worried about match fixing - and then went to management - and then ICC referee. Maybe I missed this. I haven't seen any ICC memo or press release on the subject.

As far as I'm aware no-where did i draw judgement on any South African for releasing this info.
