tough **** bro. just stop knocking into the stumps.
yeah basically this. It's incredibly unlucky it happened to be a wicket ball, but if Smith had a word with the umpire before-hand about it then I fail to see how it's such controversial umpiring. It's a kind of law where it will probably only be enforced if someone complains.

Then it shouldn't be a law.

Though now he's done it once, he should do it every time.

No, it goes to the heart of the issue - consistency.
I still don't see the problem. He saw it happen a few times, figured he needed to do something once Smith spoke to him about it. He called it as soon as Finn hit the stumps too, so it wasn't what happened that caused it.

And while I'm posting that, he calls another dead ball.

It's a handy enough distraction from wtf Strauss decided to invite SA to bat first. The new ball really isn't very new now, and unless Bres turns up like a reincarnation of Gary Gilmour then we're in deep deep trouble.

Time to tune into the Olympics imo.

**** it I'm off up t ground to poison his food at lunch.

If your watching the bowlers legs when he's delivering then your doing it wrong.

If it wasn't a wicket, then it wouldn't be called 'outrageous'. Some consistency please..

It's just common sense imo, warn the guy a couple of times and that's that. Not a big issue. Now let's say he did it every single ball, are you then suggesting the umpire take no action at all, for the sake of being consistent? Not every situation can be answered by the rulebook. The umpire made the right call and it was just unfortunate that it happened to be a wicket taking delivery.

Nah I can see where this is coming from. The law doesn't specifically say that it's dead ball if the bowler knocks the stumps down; it says it's a dead ball if it's distracting. I can definitely see the argument that it's not distracting if it happens once or twice randomly but if it keeps happening and the batsman makes the umpire aware he's being distracted, then it's deemed distracting.

Personally I think the batsman should have to deal with it, but I don't think the consistency thing really is at the crux of the matter.

I'd be calling it outrageous anyway; we'd just have fewer people bothering to take to me about it. It's a poor call IMO unless he's literally doing it every ball or he's doing it on purpose.

If it wasn't a law then the player would have no right to complain, and the umpire shouldn't have to do anything about it. It has to be a law though, because if a batsman is actually distracted by it then that's a problem that needs to be addressed.

I posted the rules a good three minutes at least before he read them out, ****.
You also said the umpire was on your list because he enforced the laws... so....

The umpire acted perfectly. The only issue was why he called it on that ball. Now that it has been clarified, the umpire did everything correct and calls for him to be sacked were a bit premature I'd have thought
