Wow someone likes to over react. Where did I say it wouldn't aid Bracken at all? I said it wouldn't help him that much, and its obviously better for MacGill to play rather than bank on the fact that hopefully Bracken will be aided by the conditions. Because if he's not, and he's as unpenetrative as I expect he'll be, you're down to 3 attacking bowlers and one to tie up an end aren't you?

And just because you decided to...
Its going nothing to do with Mcgill. What i want to know is how you know Bracken won't be helped "that much"? Do you know more than the groundsman? If so can i come to u b4 every match for betting tips?

8-) Geez, someone is a smarta__. Maybe he is using his brain. 8-) I mean, firstly, a drop-in MCG pitch is hardly going to be a raging seamer for the duration of the match - using history as a guide. Secondly, Bracken hardly has a magnificent Test record against decent Test teams, which makes it less likely he would be helped "all that much" by conditions on offer. Therefore, putting these two things together, it's possible that someone might think - without having conducted a personal inspection of the wicket - that Bracken wont be helped "all that much" by the wicket for this Test.

Bracken's never had the chance to bowl on a green pitch in tests, has he? He certainly has a phenomenal record on them in domestic cricket, and the one time he has had even slightly friendly conditions in a test match he bowled exceedingly well.

I agree, I don't think we've seen the best of him yet. 2nd innings at Brisbane 4/48 comes to mind including Lara. He bowled pretty well in Perth, had Smith wickets twice and it was a pretty flat wicket. Something England had some trouble with :)

He bowled pretty well i think, at least he bowled better than Mcgrath who avged 90 compared to 40. Outbowl Mcgrath (who said he bowled well but the wicket was flat) and you deserve another chance in my book.

McgGrath's virus didnt have anything to do with that, did it. 8-)

I don't think Bracken bowled all that well in Perth - especially considering that he took the second new ball. And it's not about whether he "deserves" another shot in Melbourne, it's about what is best for the team. I mean, compare the results in the Tests that MacGill and Warne have played in this year (Australia has won every single one of them), as compared to results in the Ashes and in Perth. Look at the respective Test records of MacGill v Bracken. Look at the fact that MacGill has taken 19 wickets in three Boxing Day appearances. Look at the history of drop-in MCG pitches. It all points to MacGill.

To be fair to Bracken, we've won all the matches he's played in bar Perth. Interesting point you make about the drop-in pitch, about its history and that pointing toward Mcgill, yet the curator says the exact opposite, that selecting him would be "mad". I can't work it out.

The curator in Perth also said, prior to play, that it would be, more or less, a traditional WACA wicket. Can you work that one out?

Nah and i won't try. It doesn't sound fair on the Melbs curator, I'm sure he had nothing to do with the Perth pitch! Merry Xmas Howard.

Will they be showing fulll coverage of the Boxing day test In Aust on Chan9 ?
yep. Melbournians will probably get full coverage aswell since the first day of the boxing day test matches are usually sold out.

1 would entail the scenario Australia is going in with at the moment. Note I said perceived all rounder. Not an actual one. Like Symonds right now.

3 would entail 5 bowlers and no Symonds.
So neither have the strength in batting then (and in the case of 1, they're not even playing 5 bowlers)

Well you have nothing but, oh the perth guy got it wrong, what do they all know, nothing!
and the factors that i outlined above. most people like to think for themselves, i guess. and not be a sheep who just follows, automatically. obviously ponting has doubts too, and is not automatically heeding the groundsman's advice. otherwise, he wouldnt be unsure of the team's makeup. anyway, i'll leave you to your (obviously stimulating) christmas.

The beat up about the pitch being green and that should favour an extra seamer than Macgill , seems like a double bluff to me ! :D

I actually think it's live every day because 9 have finally realised whatever happens you're probably not going to sell out a 97,000 capacity stadium whether it's shown on TV or not.

I'm going every day that's all I know.

I hope Bracken plays, I do think he`ll rip it up if he gets the chance. He often does quite well in Melbourne.

Kemp out, Kallis in

SMH reports that Kallis will play tomorrow and that Kemp is out with an injury, which I guess gives Prince another chance. They say that they're not yet sure about playing Boje or Langeveldt.
