Jesus Christ! I wake up to find Australia all out for under 300 within the first day, and who took they wickets? Dog! This is what happens to a team that drops a good many of its best players, I suppose.

I reckon....who in their right mind would have Symonds over Martyn as a test batsmen !!!

To anyone that saw both, was the Langveldt dropped catch worse than Shoaib Akhtars in yesterdays ODI Vs Eng?

Believe it or not it was far worse because Akhtar was running to the ball laterally, while Langveldt didnt have to move an inch. I have never seen a worse drop in my life.

Who can replace Symonds now?? Clarke can't bowl because of his back. Martyn can't bowl because of his back. They might be forced to play another batsman and get rid of MacGill, which wouldn't be too bad in my books.

I still don't understand how he dropped it. It seems near impossible. He must have physically let go of it rather than drop it, because he'd already grasped the ball. Weirdest looking drop catch...

I guess it might've been spinning a bit which is what caused him to drop it, but really...

Can that actually happen? I've taken quite a few catches at first slip to spinners and can't say that the ball has ever spun out of my hands. That was such a sitter! The crowd's reaction brought back memories of Vaughan dropping Hayden at The Gabba. How embarrassing indeed.

When Hodge came out to bat, alot of people were yelling "Lets go Marto!" and so on.. Loved it.

I love seeing Ntini succeed, you just feel he always deserves it, even if he doesnt bowl overly well.

My question is WHERE IS CLOWN SYMONDS?? when things aren't going so well for his team and his favourite player??. He totally dominated the England/Pakistan thread with heaps of English bashing. Now his team have one mediocre day and he makes 1 quick comment about aussie selectors not picking the best team (ironically CLOWN Symonds included) and thats it, hes no where to be seen.

I think Symmo's being psyched out by some good bowling, and by the pressure to maintain his scoring rate from ODIs. Everyone should get off his back and not expect him to just translpant his ODI game to tests. He has the mental attribute IMO, given that he's played patiently enough to get his eye in but hasn't gone on.

I think he'll grow as a player, all he needs is a bit of luck. One good cover drive and he'll be on his way. At the least he should be given to the end of the series

Well, if his preference is English-bashing, there's probably not a lot to do of it in this thread...

What kind of lead do people think is plausible for South Africa? They certainly got off to a pretty good start last night, but I think they'd be ecstatic with even a 30-50 lead on first innings. Huge day for the Aussie bowlers today, though.

Can get and looking forward to a 100 run lead. Even a 50 run lead could prove crucial at Perth though. I dont think there is coverage of this match through the cable broadcaster here though.

If we lose this Test, and Marto makes runs for WA in the Pura Cup match starting in Brisbane today, the chances of a recall would be pretty good. Our current middle order definitely does not have a look of permanance about it. Theres always such pressure - and I think it will unbearable against the Poms next summer - on our top three. Unless one of those chaps make a decent score, Australia really feel the pinch.
