Being a first world country helps. Ultimately sports is a rich man's game.

Everything that can be optimized - nutrition, analytics etc is optimized.

India will also keep getting better as India keeps getting richer (as they have been for the past 20-25 years).
Explain England.

Shami has 23 wickets @ 9.13 for the WC which is the highest despite only playing 6 games. Nobody with a minimum of even 10+ wickets has an average even double that (18.26). It is the best bowling average for any bowler with more than one wicket this WC despite also being the most wickets in the tournament

Shami also now has the most 5-fers in WC history (4), all of which have come against top 8 sides. He also has the most 4+ wicket hauls (8) despite only playing a total of 17 WC games.

Shami's 7-fer today is the best bowling figures in a WC Knockout game overtaking Gary Gilmour's legendary 6-14 in the 1975 semi-final after 48 years.

Shami is the fastest both in terms of innings (17) and balls bowled (795) to reach 50 wickets in world cup history. The second fastest bowler, Starc took 941 balls to get to 50 wickets which is a whole 146 additional balls more than Shami.

Shami went past ODI greats Boult and Vass in WC wickets today and is just one wicket behind Wasim Akram in World Cups despite playing 17 games compared to Akram's 38. He currently has the sixth most WC wickets in history with Akram at 5th with 55 wickets and Malinga at 4th with 56 wickets.

Explain England.
???

They are one of the most successful sporting countries in the world.

Huge Olympic hauls.

Their football mediocrity is due to their competitors being other first world countries and Brazil, which is poorer (but still not a third world country) who compensate that with a population advantage.

Their cricket team is quite decent considering the small pool of players they have. If cricket was as popular in England as football is, the English cricket team would be like the US basketball team.

Reigning World Champs in fifty overs until Sunday, world champs in T20, most fabulous Test side IN HISTORY. Football team bound to win the Euros next year. Global titles have been won in its three most popular sports (Football, Cricket, Rugby Union). That's before we even go into other sports.

That explain it well enough for you, dickhead?
I think he was joking. But, yeah, England are a hugely successful sporting nation.

but it should have been more, and Kohli pulling the handbrake up to score his 100 was one of the main reasons.
I wasn't swearing for no reason, even Iyer slowed down a bit at the end but less than VK & did tonk quite a few after he went past his ton!

Superb entertainment with plenty of nerves when Williamson and Mitchell got going. Kohli to get 50 ODIs is one hell of an achievement bearing in mind those recent 3 dark years. Honestly do not think it will ever get beaten with fewer and fewer ODIs going forward. Kohli's role in the batting line is so crucial he is the one that holds the innings together especially after Rohit's rocket start. Without that, India who have a long tail doesn't get expose to early and it frees up Shreyas and Rahul and to a lesser degree Yadav to kick on in the final 10 overs.

Shami is just exceptional. But special mention to Shreyas - it was his innings that really put the near 400 score on the board.

Nah. They still lost the Ashes in 19th century when it was extremely popular.

I can't think of a single NZ player in history to compare Mitchell to. There's no one who touches him as a player who can do it all - play pace or spin, bat long periods, hit at the death, milk singles, clear the boundary, and most importantly do it against the best teams in the huge moments.

He now averages 52 in the format, with more tons than 50s.
The most remarkable thing is how unremarkable his domestic record was before his selection. If memory serves he averaged high 30's in both formats. Dude found a way to turn himself into a genuinely great bat out of nowhere.

Disagree..

Jamaica king of sprinting , not an economic powerhouse nor a large population..

Eithopia and Kenya king of long distance running not super rich by any means ..

Greatest football talents come from the favelas in South America , most naturally talented rugby folks come from the Pacific Islands .

These are just a few examples of where money means very little..
Most important key to success in sports is passion and strong leadership . Money can help sustain structures but first there needs to be a love of the game. Genetics within your environment also play a big role in the success of sports.
