England v India: tourists will not be able to stop Andy Flower's side going to No 1, says Michael Vaughan - Telegraph

People need to learn not to judge kick back indian team by their performance in the first test of a series.

Expect slow starters India to retaliate at Nottingham | Vic Marks | Sport | The Guardian
Paddy Upton, had a theory about this: that the Indian collective psyche precluded its sports teams from producing their best performances unless they were in retaliation. They are very laid-back until provoked. Well, at Trent Bridge we can consider them provoked.
most sensible article.

Think its fairly an even day taking into account how the pitch behaved. Indian batsmen didn't look comfortable as well. Would be interesting to see if sun comes out tomorrow. Will be a great contest.
England needed 2 or 3 by close of play for honours to be even. Dravid & Laxman may have rode their luck at times, but they'll get stronger as the ball gets older and you'd fancy a couple of India's batsmen to make sizeable contributions. Unless there's early wickets tomorrow, this is looking like a repeat of 2007. Shame, but there's been so much crap written and said about this England team lately that it was almost bound to happen.

What is bound to happen, is England's propensity to have a poor test match, obviously it's a bit early to say this at the moment but it's a bit of a habit they have.

I don't know whether they needed to but it would have been helpful, India took the majority of their wickets, in the afternoon session, so as long as the weather conditions are similar it's still very much game on. The morning session is going to be critical to where this games going, they need to have at least 3 wickets back in the hutch imo.

yeah the right order restored. england can consider themselves lucky to get to two hundred odd.
We're back to our rightful place at number one without playing a test? How good is that!

Considering how India had 2 openers and ZAK missing, they would be happy with their overall performances.

Depends on how they bat tomorrow and what the conditions are but think India had marginally the better day.
I don't think how India bowled has anything to do with missing opening batsmen. They are three very good players (well two very good players and one left handed ftb) but thy should have some decent player to bring in ffs. And I think they have.

****ing brilliant day of test cricket. Probably the most enthralling day of cricket I have ever seen live at the ground.

India's bowlers were superb for 2 sessions and then Broad was absolutely ****ing magnificent. Dhoni's field setting frustrated me, as did Sreesanth's bowling in the last session and Harbhajan's bowling overall, but you have to give credit to Broad and Swann.

Then you had some amazing bowling from England and Dravid and Laxman just gritting it out.

**** I love test cricket in England.

Trent Bridge is an attractive ground as well. I had pretty good seats. Very different atmosphere to Lord's. Lots of people in hilarious outfits. My (Australian) mate and I went in our Bangladesh shirts

Yeah it was well worth the 2 hour train ride from London (not to mention the 24 hour plane ride from Melbourne  )

Just got back from Nottingham and a great day at the cricket.

I would have India on top, surviving that last session could be crucial, even if it was a little lucky. You need luck to survive in those conditions, and they did as much as they could to minimise the risks. Impressive batting.

I don't know why some people are seeing today as a vindication of "i told you England were overated/****". That is twice that England have had to bat in horrible conditions, they've done bloody well imo. If the sun comes out tomorrow India couldn't have it their way any more than this.

Tomorrow will be exciting, gutted i'm playing tbh. If India are bowled out for 300 England are still in this. It won't be easy batting last.

Where were you Jono? I was high at the top of that media stand behind the bowlers arm, think its called Radcliffe Road End. Great view, but the atmosphere in the stand down to my left, square of the wicket looked amazing.

If the conditions stay the same I'd guess that India will crumble to a similar score after the big three head back to the hutch. After that anyone's game really

Also, Bell had a number of goes at that late cut, which he played very well in Australia. However, he played it on harder wickets, and when he was well in and 40-60+. Couldn't believe he kept on going for it today, it's just a shot that's not in the circumstances.

Yes, it's one of those shots, were it's an area of strength but also can be a weakness.
