Great win Colts. Very impressed with the team effort. Some have said we'll be relying on batsman this season, but our bowlers are doing a tremendous job. Everyone is contributing and there were vital partnerships that got us to our victory target. On a personal note I am very pleased to get us through for our first win, definitely my best performance with the bat, even though I was dropped a fair few times...

Let's keep this momentum going Colts. We need to take this attitude into the first one day game, which I'm sure we'll do.

How embarrasing
No, I typed 'Where to now?'. I am my own person and refuse to copy others sayings.

How embarassing James

Cricket Web Red vs Cricket Web Colts
at the CW Oval

In a match hyped for the predicted scrutiny of rookie performances, it was the senior players who engaged in battle at the very end. Three friends fighting for glory. Colts skipper and former Red seamer, Kyle Wright played the innings of his Dev League career, scoring 20 not out of an unbeaten gamewinning stand of 29 for the last wicket. Not to be overlooked is the contribution of debutant Thomas, who hung in with his captain for 7 not out.

Facing up to fire an brimstone from David Kennett and Dave Watt, Wright was dropped three times in total, twice by opposite number Marc Robbins in the slip cordon. The last of the drops came with 2 runs needed for victory amidst a tense encounter, and it was the ball after Ian Markus missed a simple run out chance.

The game was defined by missed chances at crucial stages as well as crucial performances when hope seemed lost. With just 26 runs separating the teams on first innings, Wright's three wickets helped bowl his team back into contention - Red all out for 152. Then, set 179 for victory, the Colts were startled by Kennett and Watt, as the top order crumbled to 29/4. This was proceeded impressively by a fighting stand of 73 between Malthus-Howell and Jasotharan

Under the immense pressure of a potential pair, Malthus-Howell batted bravely for his team's cause to score a half-century on debut. He was partnered by the boisterous Jasotharan, whose strokeplay looked to be taking the game firmly the way of the Colts, when Kennett intervened once more.

The veteran bowled a double wicket maiden and set the score back from 102/4 to 102/6 in the space of 3 balls. Game on once again. Gary Nayak joined Malthus-Howell and batted positively in a stand of 48, as the Colts appeared to be pushing on toward victory. On cue, another burst from Watt and Kennett did the trick and it looked all over when Wright was made to come to the crease at 150/9.

Indeed, the fat lady was just warming up...

well, that was depressingly decadent, my batting seems to have deserted me, in the style of damien martyn. 44, 9, 4, 14. *shakes head*. Come on reds, lets pull up our socks, it really is sad, that in second innings none of us rookies could get any wickets, I mean we only needed 1. The most irritating thing of all is that my brother was involved in both my dismissals. Arggh. Ah well, we can only get better right?

Concentrate on the one-dayer now.
