WWE Royal Rumble - Quick Match Results

- Cruiserweight Title Open: Gregory Helms def. Funaki to win the title
- Mickie James def. Ashley
- The Boogeyman def. John Bradshaw Layfield
- Royal Rumble: Rey Mysterio eliminates Randy Orton to win
- WWE Title: John Cena def. Edge to win the title
- World Title: Kurt Angle def. Mark Henry to retain
Pretty disappointing Rumble I thought. Was still worth the 30 I paid for it but that's pretty much because of the actual Rumble and Edge.

Going down the card:

-The Cruisers: Decentish match, nobody in the crowd cared, none of the wrestlers were over and a heel Helms won to no reaction. I love how the cruiserweight division has died. Still, a couple of nice spots from London and a killer finisher by Helms. Funnily enough, didn't Helms job to Lawler recently? And we're supposed to believe he's the best sub 220 pounder in the WWE now? 4/10 for this match.

-Mickie v Ashley : Bad, it's obvious that Finlay isn't doing much work with the women anymore because this was just a mess of a match. Absolutely horrible, I could have sold better than Ashley did. 1/10

- Boogey v JBL: I liked it somewhat, Boogeyman botching the worm spot with Jillian was a little embaressing but they covered his in-ring flaws well and it's good to see Bradshaw do a very convincing job for once. 5/10

- Angle v Henry : Horrible, no build up, no one even cared about Henry out there, he got zero heat whatsoever. Angle somehow managed to carry his *** through the match but it wasn't pretty and seeing Mark Henry ending a PPV was a bit much for me. Taker coming in and whoring the spotlight was pretty awful too. I don't think he deserves to headline another Mania. 4/10

- Edge vs Cena: Edge has to be the most improved wrestler in the company. His performances recently show he's developing into a true all-rounder but I reckon he could pretty much go the way of Y2J and be so fed up with being misused that he loses interest in the business.

First of all the actual match itself was very well booked, as Meltzer mentioned, they booked it ina way that Edge carried most of the offence giving people little chance to boo any potential gains from Cena. Edge carried the match billiantly and it reached a pretty acceptable level in terms of being watchable, if not the result.

I feel horrible for Edge. Along with Lita and Flair he drew HUGE these past three weeks as champ, was building solid momentum, confidence, credibility and heat but how did they reward him? They buried him. Jobbing is bad enough on your first title defence, but jobbing clean and tapping to a very unconvincing opponent defies belief for me. I don't know where they can take this now. He'll probably lose his rematch as well and be pushed way down the card for Mania.

IMO his was the best performance of the Rumble. He didn't come out with the "Damn, I'm losing the belt tonight" face that almost all wrestlers put on when they're jobbing to someone and his work in and out of the ring was smooth, controlled and totally assured. The guy has performed like a seasoned veteran recently too bad he's going down the card when he should be going up the card. 7/10 for the match, the outcome not even worth rating.

Trips vs Cena at Mania? Wow! :****ed:

The Royal Rumble: Pretty spectacular as per usual, bit peeved about the 90 second rule instead of two minutes especially since the PPV finished about 13 minutes under time too, why are we getting less for our money now than we did in the past?

Onto the Rumble itself, I thought it was very well booked. Things that bugged me were Trips eliminating both Kane and Big Show, Orton coming straight in and getting rid of Benoit, Flair lastin a solid minute before being tossed out, Booker getting less ring time than the Coach, Trevor Murdoch lastin so bloody long, Chavo being made to look like a jobber, Tatanka as a surprise entrant?

The goods outweighed the bad however in this match, Rey Rey looked excellent all throughout, Lashley looked like he's building some steam,Orton sold surprisingly well, RVD was a bit slow in the ring and some of the guys had to oversell his kicks which eliminated them but it was good to see him back, Benoit was once again brilliant when called upon, I thought Eugene did great for himself, HBK vs the McMahons was great, and of course the ending was superb as well with all 4 of the "expert" picks there to choose from. 8/10

Rey deserved the win more than anyone else in the Rumble as he's been the most consisntently over face in the company along with Batista and previously with Eddie for a couple of years now, but with Trips, Cena, Taker, Orton and Angle all wanting in the ME for Mania he'll probably lose his shot somehow, and considering how much they've whored out Eddies death to give him this shot the heat from most people and especially the Hispanics in the US could be intense, probably even worse than what Cena's gonna get over the next month or so.

All in all, an average card with a top Rumble match, but with too many disappointing outcomes which makes me fear for this year's Mania card.

I thought the cruiserweight match was very good, while the Edge/Cena match was horrible. Edge is just as limited as Cena in the ring, and it was so predictable

edge has hardly had a fair run as champion if you ask me, poor decision indeed, seeing eugene is a joke, seeing goldust show up again is a waste of time as his novelty expired about 7 years ago. Rey likely to lose his title shot one way or another is a joke as well, makes his winning of the rumble a waste of time, although its a nice tribute to eddie, i would say if anything make the main event a wrestlemania a triple threat with rey and orton both competing, that way doesnt really matter ifrey doesnt win and wont really affect wwes future plans either.

tatanka wouldv been the biggest shock, if he had not turned up to shows over the past year.

Anyone watch this week's SD?

Randy Orton asked Rey why he looks up to the sky when Eddie's really in hell. :@

Just when you thought they couldn't desecrate Eddie any more. Absolutely cheap and illegitimate way to get heat.

Pretty effective too.

Randy's getting TONS of backstage heat for agreeing to go ahead with the line.

I just find it sad that the writers and wrestlers have to cover their own inadeqacies and resort to this to get a guy over.

Probably what's worse is that Smackdowns top face is going to lose his Mania shot to a guy who's not remotely over and has to disrespect a guy as beloved as Eddie to get any sort of reaction.

Geez, WWE post Edge and Angle's title victories is going a bit downhill for me.

IMHO I think it's going to continue, especially with some of the rumoured angles coming up - Orland Jordan bisexual?? Please...

What do you guys think of TNA? I've been watching their shows for the last 2 months, and they have been massively impressive, bettering anything in WWE that I've seen in the last couple of years. They have the best talent going around with guys like Styles, Sabin, Daniels, Dutt etc, plus with bigger names like Cage and Sting coming in, and a primetime show, perhaps we can see some proper wrestling for a change?!

Sting won't be on full time for TNA though and you forget Christian but i think he won't travel or something

When I said Cage I meant Christian Cage. I think Sting signing is also a moral victory for TNA over WWE, since WWE have been trying to sign him for quite a while, but have never come close. Also Jericho has hinted that he would be interested in signing with TNA, and Bret Hart has also said if he ever appears in a wrestling ring again on national TV it will be with TNA!

Ahh my friend, I'm a big TNA fan. I love watching Impact every week, and since we don't get it in Australia, I make an effort and download it. Browse this thread and you'll find out that Christian Cage is probably my favourite performer in all of Professional Wrestling.

I think TNA is a great fit for Christian and he's more over with the TNA fans than anyone else at the moment. He's got great in ring ability, he's great on the microphone and he can make anybody he wrestles look like a million dollars. That's what you need from a World Champion and I think he should win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at Against All Odds.

As far as other talent goes, I'm extremely impressed with Christopher Daniels, Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, Alex Shelley and Sonjay Dutt. Those five guys are probably the backbone of TNA and deliver with awesome matches pretty much every week. Enough's been said about AJ Styles and Samoa Joe so I'm not going to bother.

It was great reading that they might get a prime time spot in America. We don't get TNA here which is a damn shame. But if they keep going at this rate, I have a feeling that Australia will start getting TNA very soon.

Overall it's nice to have a breath of fresh air and with WWE being more focused towards children and teenagers, it's nice to have a company like TNA that is more focused towards in ring action and legitimate athletic competition which pleases us older fans more. Lets hope they continue with the good work.

Yeah, one reason Christian joined with TNA is that the travel required is significantly less than WWE. Christian was with WWE for around 8 years and travelled pretty much every day for 8 years. Obviously the toll that it took on his health was immense, and TNA gives him a much lighter schedule and a main event spot so he was very smart to take the offer.

TNA is filmed all the time in the one venue, in Orlando. Christian only lives an hour's drive away from Orlando and he can drive to work and back home every week, which is a pretty good deal as he can be with family. So he made the right decision in my view, in that he's going to be with his family more often, he'll go to main event status and the schedule is less demanding overall. Good move in my opinion.

WWE sucks. Wrestling has been going down hill since 2001 IMO. 1997-2001 were the glory years but now that Vince has taken over the WWE has become arrogant because they know that the fans have nothing else to go to and they have become complacent because of it.

The story lines are pathetic and the wrestlers are almost as bad. Entertaining wrestling is dead IMO.

Surprising how they're not playing up the Rey jumping angle at all! The Batista tease last year was very, very entertaining.

And everyone knows it's Triple H who's going to be going to Wrestlemania. They're not even making an effort with Edge, which is interesting because Mick Foley in his latest blog believes Edge's de-push has some political angles to it.

well wwe have always been pretty anti north usa, their depiction of anyone from outside this area has always been pretty negative, for instance rene dupree being french is made out to be a heel because of this, the storyline which showed the emergence of daivari and hassan was an abosolute joke, and pretty much a disgrace imo, william regal and tajiri were only made out to be faces when they were a laughing stock, when they are serious they are also heels....and to top it off...people from the southern states are treated like crap also, i remember hardcore holly having loads of animal loving jokes made about him etc... not to mention the treatment canadians get....poor test and edge, i pity edge, looks like vinnie mac has written up some really...sweet storylines yet again....decline of wwe, methinks so.

i wouldnt really disagree to much with this either tbh, although to say its not entertaining may be slightly innacurate, i would say its still a good laugh, but thats only because its just so much of a joke and awfully put together its funny, mind you some of the storylines are so beyond that...its just awful...really sad...
