Hate to bang a very beaten drum, but this over, Scotty Stevenson has:
- called Mitchell's outside edged drive a cut
- called Mitchell's drive to long on for 1 as no run
- and called Mitchell's club to mid-on for 4 as being hit by Chapman

Tell me how this guy does this for a job
It is actually really poor. I don't mind him as a presenter, and when he did rugby he knew the game. But honestly, you could pluck a guy out of your local 7th XI - actually you could choose the guy who bats 9 and doesn't bowl - and he would have more knowledge of the game. I don't accept that from the broadcaster of our national game. It's mud. I know he's a nice guy, but if anyone turned up to commentate rugby and got it that wrong, they'd be marched out the back and pushed down a bank

"That's 20 rows back"

At best, maybe 8 rows in but probably 5.

I am genuinely surprised 'rows back' has never been a stat in cricket broadcasting. Certainly much more enjoyable than some stinkers we've had over the years, like angle off the bat or sixes in the tournament.

If there's one thing I've noticed this summer in the super smash, ford trophy and the internationals it's that all the commentators are either faking being at the ground and watching through the tv set, or are watching through the tv set at the ground. None of them can tell where the ball is going - often "it's gone up...." *Ball lands in the crowd* "and it's six"
"That'll be four.." *fielder appears on screen* "oh nope it's been cut off"

Like either they all have the world's worst spatial and depth perception and unable to work out basic trajectories, or they're literally not watching the field on front of them.

A far cry from Richie Benaud who would literally say the amount of runs scored as soon as the ball hit the bat.

I literally don't think I've ever seen a commentator as bad at keeping track of who's on strike.

I think half the problem is they spend so much time discussing absolute random crap that they aren't actually watching the game.

I feel like I know more about what the commentary team likes to eat for snacks than I do my own family after watching the Super Smash this summer.

It's crazy to compare it to the analysis and debate you get in US sports. I get they are trying to appeal to a more general audience, but a) is a general audience tuning into the Super Smash on Duke? and b) If you have to have complete nonsense bantz in order to pull an audience in, are you actually getting them into cricket?

It's a shame seeing Afridi so far down on pace. The guy was on track to being the best fast bowler in the world before that knee injury.

And Milne is a right hand batsman while Chapman is a left hander so it shouldn't be hard to get them mixed up.
Yeah this is something that's just so overwhelmingly obvious...to most people. To some it just isn't and I've never been able to figure out why. Like they don't even notice that they're standing the opposite way around. I've known quite a few people like that, watching cricket or tennis or whatever else and they just don't register it
