**Official** Pakistan in New Zealand (3 tests)

Did India really refuse to use it or was it because of the disagreement about who will foot the bill for them.
Perhaps money had some influence, but to quote from a Cricinfo article, "India originally supported the implementation of the UDRS, but have reportedly been dissuaded by players, who have reservations about the effectiveness of referrals." (UDRS = Umpire Decision Review System)

If money was involved it raises a point though, that if New Zealand can afford the system, how could India not?

Listening to TMS on the weekend, New Zealand cricket are using the system from whatever New Zealand company is supplying it for no extra charge.

Reason according to some BCCI guy who was speaking to Aggers why it wasn't wanted in India was the players didn't support it.

Yes it seems that Rudi Kourtzen's been given all the technology that the Sky commentators have to use in their production so that comment sounds valid.

The BCCI comment backs up the quote I included from the Cricinfo article. I'm not sure why the Indians wouldn't want to trial it TBH, surely its the way the game is to be played in the future with a greater degree of technology included so I'd personally be keen to test it out.

Going to be tough for Pakistan from here. Apparently going to get colder over the next few days, enough pace and bounce in the wicket for Bond and Martin to trouble the Pakistanis and their top order is completely untested in these conditions.

Umar Gul has been so unlucky. Deserves a few wickets at least.

Mohammed Asif isn't bowling all that quickly. He has excellent accuracy, bowls in good areas and generates movement, but I thought he was quicker?

Can see why he's so highly rated. Never gives that batsman an inch.

Ajmal getting some turn and creating discomfort. NZ need to make sure they get a good first innings total now, this pitch might start favouring the spinners very shortly.

We could be cynical and point to batting averages.:p

I don't think Asif usually bowls that much quicker, I remember watching him in the 2007 World T20 against India where in the group match he took about four top order wickets and he wasn't bowling super fast.

I bet Vettori's pleased with the turn the pitch is beginning to take, though one gets the impression Ajmal could be very dangerous in New Zealand's second innings too. Agreed regarding Gul being a bit unlucky.

Though the referral could go either way, remember McCullum had the opportunity to better his average and indeed score in the match due to the system...
I wasn't serious. :p

I'd have thought India would support it though given the Andrew Symonds chaos.

I don't think the drugs Asif was using could be described as performance-enhancing.

Yup I know it was somewhat tongue in cheek. The controversial Australia vs India series in 2008 and the umpiring issues was the main reason for my comment initially in wondering why they'd oppose using reviews.

Xuhaib called it yesterday, the difference in this series might be the fact we have McCullum/Vettori at 7 and 8. A treat to watch.

what a player Vettori has developed into... hats off to the captain.. He has amazed me with his batting over the last one year...he knock last year against Bangladesh was superb..while people might not value it because it was against a lowly opponent but mind you..if he didnt play that knock, New Zealand were going to lose that match

Definitely, Bangladesh at home with their spinners are a bit of a handful and Vettori single handedly won the match for us.
