Finally a hundred for one of our batsmen. I wonder when was the last time a New Zealand batsman scored 3 centuries in a year.

Missed out on a very deserving century in the first innings of the first test match, but not this time. Truly a spirited innings from a great cricketer, I couldn't stop clapping when he sneaked that 100th run, off Gul's bowling. Brendon was unfortunate, got out to a no-ball (at least looked no-ball to the naked eye with out zooming into the replay) full credit to Gul though, that seaming bouncer truly deserved a wicket. Nevertheless, the lower middle order has put NZ in a very strong position, a lead of 123 with not much batting to come is good considering how the top order played. If Tuffey stays at the wicket, there is every chance for Dan to go ahead and make a bigger score.
P.S: Special thanks to Danish Kaneria for dropping Vettori on 97.

Can't believe Tuffey is batting 8 in a test, he is seriously not a very good bat. Southee's batting must have really stagnated.

Southee's batting was never really that good to begin with. Sure he has the natural talent to be a decent lower-order batsmen but at this stage he's pretty average.

Anyway, coming in at ten should be fine with him. He'll most likely get to bat with Chris Martin and he's hit something like 11 sixes in test cricket when batting with Martin.

Yea but they needed someone to stay at the crease and Tuffey did it mate, seriously he negotiated the leggie really well barring couple of googlies which beat his bat.

Tuffey worked on his batting heaps when he couldn't bowl/was bowling offies. He's always had a decent technique and some nice shots but never really took it seriously until recently, so he's regarded as a potentially decent bat with numbers that don't reflect his current ability. I'll believe it when I see it itbt but that's the logic.

Yeah. When he was playing for Counties a few years back he was scoring runs at four/five for them. It's not international cricket but still, he can bat.

He picks length pretty early and that is the hallmark of any good batsman, his foot movement is better than Tim McIntosh's (no offense meant).

It's difficult to tell without actually watching him, but Southee's batting was pretty hopeless when we last saw him, and I'd rather he focused on improving his bowling tbh.

Yea, if he bowls those swinging deliveries ,more often, like the one he bowled to get rid of Salman Butt, we would not even think of discussing his batting abilities. He is just 21 though, he has got a long way to go, hasn't he? He'll obviously get better with time.
