I love Henry Nicholls. He has a better test record than Fleming/Astle so far and in a tough test situation I'd pick Henry Nicholls over those 2 anyday.

I think he is going to retire as a atg nz test middle order batsman.

Oof, I’m guessing that pakpassion is an ugly ugly place right now.
It's been ugly for the past several hours. Had to stifle a few guffaws at work.

I love how apparently if someone isn't picking up wickets regularly they're not even first class standard.

So.many.questions.

Why are you guys at Pakpassion? Are you also on ICF? Is there an Aussie equivalent of those boards?

faheem looks a find to me. i know he's been airy fairy on the front dog at times, and pews said he's more of a bowling allrounder, but he doesn't look out of place at #7 at all and a solid 5th bowler.

i wouldn't be too discouraged by zafar gohar's figures so far either. finger spinners don't go well in nz outside of the odd performance at seddon park, and hagley oval is the bottom pit of hell for them in nz.

feel bad for naseem. there's not much point having a fast medium 3rd seamer who can't stay in the corridor. whoever toyed with him has a case to answer.

at home/in asia i'd enjoy seeing

abid ali
shan masood (thin ice)
azhar ali
babar azam
fawad alam
mohammad rizwan (c) (wk)
faheem ashraf
zafar gohar
yasir shah
mohammad abbas
shaheen shah afridi

They have Imam to come in if Shan continues to fail. Fawad Vs Haris is still a toss-up but for now, Fawad wins out. Faheem, Naseem and Shaheen should all play as many tests as they can. Maybe a break for Naseem and advising him to not give up on his action and pace would be worthwhile. But otherwise, Pak have the nucleus for a good side already.

fawad is crushing haris sohail atm. feels like pakistan have robbed themselves of an azhar ali quality player for ten years.

Feel for Pakistan’s bowlers here. Yesterday I said that if they held their chances they’d be right in it. Probably would’ve bowled NZ out for 200ish if they had. But when you’re consistently dropping 3 or 4 straightforward chances a day there’s only so much the bowlers can do. Feel for Shaheen in particular, he deserves a lot more than this.

Can't bring myself to watch the highlights. Watched it up to the no ball and that seems to have completely deflated Pakistan. Were the drops really bad?

they were mostly sharp chances iirc, but the bowling and some ground fielding got listless in the final session.

Bit of rain forecast for this afternoon. NZ will need to keep pressing on as they probably only have 5-6 more sessions to win the match.
