Guptill really paddled that in the end - turned it into a no-contest

Can guarantee that Pakistan are feeling agrieved by the D/L score - I think it was about as fair as it could be though, and obviously it couldn't take into account the potential weakness in the rest of NZ's batting card.

Taylor now averaging over 45 in ODIs. Just had a look at the cricinfo ODI career batting records and of those who have scored more runs than Taylor only Dhoni, de Villiers, Kohli, Amla and Bevan have better averages.

That moment you discover Henry Nicholls has a higher ODI SR than Viv Richards.

There's a huge question mark over Sarfraz's place in the team. He's been shouting unneccessarily at the fielders which could face backlash from the players

What?

Just watched the highlights this morning I recorded on Prime. I stopped and deleted it when the rain came at 64/2.

Doh.

Pakistan have been there and there abouts in the series. The batting has looked ok and then slumped, the bowling has been good in spurts. I think there needs to be a couple of changes. First, if Zaman is fully fit, he fits right in but I'd prefer he go in with the younger Imam, rather than Ali. Then, they need to bring in a second spinner and if Malik is not going to be bowled, why is he there? Shadab, Faheem, Hasan can all strike it long. Malik has been very good in the last 2 years or so as a hitter but he has looked kind of out of it here. Rest him a bit and bring in someone that can bowl.

As for NZ, they have been consistent, if unspectacular throughout. They do need a spinner to compliment Santner and Astle is not THAT guy.

this is the 7th straight defeat that NZ have inflicted on pakistan. Correct?

Just awful. And NZ used to be Pak's bunny. How the tables have turned

ODIs or all formats?

It's not as bad as it seems, because Pakistan's ODI side has just come into its own recently and the crop of players playing now are young and inexperienced apart from a handful of old warhorses.

I'd be proud if England had a teenager like Shadab, a guy early in his career like Faheem, a very young fast bowler in Ali and some guys barely months removed from debuts (Zaman and Raees).

I know the Pakistani fans are not a patient bunch but let them grow. They haven't been blown away in either match, shown some guts and been affected by rain at times. Plus, this is an experienced NA side (for the most part) in very favourable home conditions.

Zim 8 W 2 L
Pak 12 W 5 L
WI 7 W 6 L
SL 10 W 10L
Ban 8 W 9 L
Aus 7 W 9 L
Eng 6 W 8 L
Ind 8 W 11 L
SA 7 W 11 L

And a winning record at home against all teams besides England (2-2) and SA (3-8, which would make us 4-3 away/neutral). We have not lost at home to Bangladesh 7-0 or India 4-0 and all our victories against Australia are at home 7-4

Wow does that mean we are 1 win out of 10 against Bangladesh away/neutral in this decade?

Yea we lost 3-0 in 13/14 and 4-0 in 10/11. We went 1/1 in the tri-series in Ireland and they beat us in the 2017 Champion's Trophy

But the asterix next to that is the fact all seven have been in NZ, right? Or were some of them in Abu Dhabi

We're a bloody good ODI side in NZ. We have guys like Gup, Munro, Nicholls etc who aren't great workers of the ball, but they can keep runrates rollicking along on decently quick boundaries by hitting through the line over and to the boundary. Kane obviously the exception. Much harder when we go to the sub-continent and the pitches are slower, or Australia where the big ground meme shows up. And I'm proud we are so tough to beat at home, and nowadays also go away and compete (even if we do get trounced in the odd ODI)

Yes, this is quite the change from the nineties and early 00's. If it wasn't WW it'd be Mohd. Sami or Mohd. Zahid inflicting a crushing defeat.

Well there's the series in the UAE later this year to put that right. While NZ emerged with credit last time around it'll be a tough ask to repeat it.

Thought Astle has done alright so far? He did get tonked for 21 in that over but it does happen to legspinners, and has the wickets to show for it . I suppose it'll get harder from now on given he won't be playing a CBF Windies. But apart from Sodhi I don't think there are any other options in the spin department.
