The term racist does not relate to only this incident - this is just the latest (and hopefully final) incident in a long and storied career with subcontinent teams.
Still ignoring the incidents he's had with other sides who aren't from the subcontinent because that would ruin the racist claims I see...

Well it was only because they could have been penalised 6 runs, which would have meant he'd have had to bother to hit Gough for another 6 at some point.

England got around this over rate problem by picking Mahmood, thus ensuring the game finished early.

The number of non-subcontinent incidents are dwarfed by the incidents against subcontinent teams.

That's partly because any time Hair makes a decision against an Asian side a lot of people like you automically say it's because he's racist, or someone in said Asian side will go off in a huff like Inzy did - most of these 'incidents' are remembered purely because someone has gone and got themselves a fine. In the end paranoia fuels even more paranoia.

Oh really, because the Cricinfo article I read detailing the 2 umpires (because people still ignore Doctrove) controversies suggested something different - I think there was one in it, and one of them was SA complaining about Hair favouring Pakistan...

Mind you, why should that ruin a good witch-hunt?

Do you actually watch any cricket or what?
Everytime I've seen Hair umpire a Test involving subcontinental teams, it's not just the decisions that rankle...it's the way he deals with the team. It certainly 'seems' as if he has a problem with the subcontinental teams from his manner towards them.

This thread has grown by about 50 pages since I last checked ... Going back to the Oval Test, does anyone know if the match and series awards were ever given out? If not there are medals and a bottle of champers or two gathering dust somewhere. In England there is a player of the series for each side, chosen by the manager of the opposing team - a nice touch at the end of a series. But no-one expected the series to end like this!

I can't see anything about it at CricInfo...they probably decided that most people wouldn't care about the awards with all the furore.
