I am pleasantly suprised that most of the English papers have placed the blames where it belongs - at Hair/ICC and not at Pakistan. Only thing I blame pakistan for is not walking right away.

Whats pretty clear from reading quite a few of the posts. Most People from sub-continent or from sub-cont background seem to hold one view about Hair while People from England, Aus and SA etc seem to hold other view. Same could be said about Pakistan's stance. Wonder whats up with that ?

I think this is quite an interesting point .... Is their any way we at Cricketweb have some sort of a poll with a few questions ? I dont think geographical location will be a huge factor but here's a chance we could really find out.

Not geographical location, but maybe 'country of origin or country supported'. I would guarantee that it will be the factor differentiating the two sides.

But in that case, that individual should be named as the guilty party. Instead Inzy has been named, because he is the captain of the team. This implies, IMO, that "Mr." Hair did not see anybody tampering the ball. He made his allegation based on the condition of the ball.

Most probably not.

The one with the ball in their hands, Most probably yes. Cameras have a habit of following the cricket ball..

Afridi admits to tampering

Don't know if anyone here has noticed this. It's an interview from February where Shahid Afridi implies that ball tampering is widespread in the Pakistan team.

I'm certainly not pointing the finger wrt anything that did or did not happen on sunday; just saying that this interview is extremely embarrassing for Pakistan at the present time.

Also, whilst no-one likes to be called a cheat, I personally think it's OTT to say it is an insult to a nation's pride when a team (or maybe just one player in that team) is accused of it. The sad fact is that Pakistani players (and, indeed, players of all nationalities) do sometimes cheat. Shahid Afridi very recently was caught dancing the two-step on a good length & Shoaib has been suspended twice for tampering in this current decade. If cheating is such a stain on a reputation, why are either of these players still selected?

I agree entirely, if it is genuine then it is certainly massive news.
I heard about it through friends in the States who saw it running on cable news there. The article only appeared online in the last couple of hours. The website incidentally is owned by Reuters (I think?).
I've e-mailed my contact at cricinfo who has promised to get into it for me. I certainly share your scepticism (as does he incidently) but it has been posted on a reputable cricket website (and it's not April 1st) so we'll have to wait and see.

The umpire doesn't need to know ho did it to call ball tampering. It is perfectly legitimate for him to look at the state of the ball and say it's been tampered with.

Bottom line is u cant accuse of tampering unless u r absolutely sure. When he signalled 5 runs he meant that condition of the ball has been changed. An old ball lookd increasingly deteriorated these days due to the advertisement boards, etc.

He also did not inform/talk to Inzy abt the ball. What Hair did was a disgrace. He's had a history of some shameful events in the past. His body language and attitude is exteremely poor with Asian teams and his policeman attitude is no good for intl cricket. For once, ICC shd step up and take actions against its officials.

As a side issue, what on earth is the point of the 5 run penalty for ball tampering?

More importantly, according to Ceefax, Woolmer reckons that the odi's are in danger if Inzi picks up the 8 match ban that's beeing mooted. Quite what the implications of that would be doesn't bear thinking about.
