certainly looks like Pakistan are trying to get Darymple into the test side, bit of gamemanship going on?
I doubt it but you never know with Woolmer.

I don't know, you think the main aim of the batsmen would be to get in form first before trying to get a toothless spinner into the test.

Tim Bresnan injured Hoggard. I bet Tim aint that popular at the moment:laugh:
Stepped on his hand during a warm-up, I believe. Useless lump. Right up there with McGrath last summer in the list of astonishingly stupid injuries.

Oh gawd Dalrymples got three, fletch'll have him in instead of Monty because he can bat and field. Forget the fact hes about as much a test player as Blackwell.
That's fairly harsh. Dalrymple's basically a batter who bowls a bit. Blackwell is a lower-order slogger with a vastly infalted average due to him playing his home matches on one of the most batter-friendly decks in CC.

Dalrymple at six would allow us to play 4 front-line quicks, as hard on Monty as that may be.

Do we have 4 front-line quicks worth picking?

...Infact, now Hoggard's hand's ****ed up, do we have one front-line quick worth picking?

Dalrymple is not a test bowler, so just pick a batsman in his place. Monty is the wicket-taking option, and as Steds says we're struggling for 3 decent quicks, let alone 4.

Also if you say Blackies batting average is inflated, surely his bowling average is deflated for playing at the same ground, hence making him a much better bowling then option Dalrymple. Yet personally I can't advocate picking either as a front-line spinner with their respective first-class averages bowling-wise.

How about:

Trescothick
Strauss
Cook
Pietersen
Bell
Collingwood
Dalrymple
Read
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar

A little left-field, granted, and it's probably a seamer light (however as things stand I'd rather Collingwood bowled than Plunkett, Mahmood, Lewis, Bresnan...) so unless Stuart Broad fancies the deep end on Thursday, this is how I'd go in.

Not so sure about that lineup as it only has 3 wicket-taking options. I'd play Plunkett or Mahmood in place of one of the spinners for sure.
Plunkett and Mahmood don't add much of a wicket taking option. Nor do they appear to be able to keep a consistent line.
