*Official* Pakistan in England 2020

Meh, rainy weather makes good conditions to bowl = results, for all the complaints this Summer a result in every match, and I'd wager one here.

It's just you weirdo forns that think the game should be played in the sun.

Pakistan supporters should be pretty happy to be in this position, on balance of play yesterdayshouldn't be if England weren't so cack-handed and they hadn't had an huge dose of luck they could be all-out.
I thought Pakistan applied themselves really well, but they were still very lucky to reach 126/5. That's just what it means to bat in England as an away team I guess.

Yes the conditions were perfect, but we've known England get over-excited about that before and bowl too short or erratically, they bowled really well yesterday, good cricket all-round except the catching, think any test team would have struggled, and been happy with 126-5.

This is a great segment on Sky, with Nasser, Athers and even Warne. Nassers input particularly insightful.

Sky have been so good this summer. Dumping Botham made such a difference. Having an ignorant blowhard around really drags down the coverage, like Vaughan on TMS.

Does it ever stop raining in England? It's a good job the pitches over there aren't like they are in Australia, and they don't use the Kookaburra, or else every match would be a draw.

There was hardly a cloud in the sky throughout April and May when no one was allowed out. It does make you wonder if a greater power is having a laugh.

Someone on cricinfo has been reading cricketweb.

Muhammad Yasir: "There is no name for Pak-Eng. Test Series so why not give it a name. Considering the history between two countries why not name it as "Gatting-Shakoor Rana Trophy"" I wouldn't be opposed. And Aus-Pak to be Hair-Inzi, of course?

If it weren’t for Holding’s DRS conspiracy theories it’d be pretty much there, yeah.

TMS is frustrating, they have a bunch of excellent commentators and Zaltsman on the books is gold. Then Vaughan shows up like a turd in the middle of your ice cream.

It’s been so hot and sunny here in the Lake District I’m covered in sunburn.

England have had results in something like 28 of their last 30 tests. We don’t really do draws any more.
Think it's trending that way in general all over the world. I open the occasional scorecard from the '80s and '90s and there seem to be so many draws with 300 overs or so bowled, and hardly 3 completed innings at <2.5 RPO. Thank God that's a thing of the past.

Pretty sure someone can dig out some StatsGuru query showing that the number of draws has gone down drastically in the last decade.

Yeah Sky good, not an huge fan of Key/ward, would rather Gower or Guha be there as anchor. Ward is bland, Key too much of a bantz merchant for me. Neither top-class players either, which is fine if you are a great broadcaster, but umm yeah.

And then I open the old Wisden article and it says anything less than 19 overs an hour was considered unusual in the 30s. Grimmett used to go through his overs at under a minute apparently

Edit: It was 38 hours per session which I mixed up with per hour. In an article about the 1959/60 tour the author complains about over rates falling to under 14 in some spells. https://www.espncricinfo.com/wisdenalmanack/content/story/155245.html
