I meant consecutively. He averaged 23 last season. In his last five summers he's hit a grand total of two First Class hundreds, and he averages less in First Class cricket overall than North does in Tests. He's been having a good season so far, but that's consisted of just five games. I like him, but he needs to do more IMO.

As I said in another thread before, the last thing the Australian team needs is another batsman who looks good at the crease and gets lots of starts but never converts unless the score's at 3/250 already. Not only has that been a perennial problem within the team over the last year or two, but it also sends a message back to domestic cricket that what one needs to do to get into the team is create hype around oneself and make pretty unconverted starts. Even if we pick blokes like Rogers, Hughes or even Dussey and they fail, it'll send the right sort of message back that players need to work on scoring big runs to get picked.

And that makes him a better batsman how?

I never denied the possibility of him getting picked; it's quite possible for a variety of reasons, that being one. But I thought the discussion was over whether he should be picked.
I get the feeling that if Australia replace a number 6 batsman, it will be with a batsman who is younger than him so that rules out the overrated Dussey and the consistent Rogers. The selectors will not consider Rogers for a position outside the top 3.

With Marsh as he's younger, I think the selectors will think he's capable to bat anywhere in the top 6, similar to Greg Blewett and his start to his career.

I fully expect Shaun Marsh to be on the tour for NZ. Don't you?

You seem more interested in trying to guess what the selectors will do than discussing who the best option is, in which case I agree with you that Marsh is a decent shout. I just don't think it should happen; he hasn't done nearly enough for mine.

Look, I rate Nannes as well but he just hasn't done enough.
Was the second leading wicket-taker in FC cricket last season though - that was definately enough for him to be considered for the SA tour earlier 2009 & be amongst the reckoning in the test set-up ATM once fit. Hasn't got a chance to build on that this season due to injuries, has only played 1 FC game this season last i checked.

Well it's probably more easy to say 'I told you so' as the selectors have a say. Actually, stuff it I'll say I reckon Shaun Marsh deserves to be selected on the tour of NZ. He's a better option than Tim f$%king Smith, that's for sure.

I think most would agree there, except for Tim himself.
