There is news that Aamer is going to be fit for the next test.. in case he didn't.. then i think sami deserve another shot.. he is in a good forum.. i won't be surprise he may play the next test instead of gul. not that i would like that..
I would be extremely surprised if he plays the next Test ahead of Umar Gul, because Gul is a vastly superior bowler. To say that Sami is in good form is to ignore the strong resemblance between his second innings bowling and his career record. He's a poor bowler, simply put. In the long run I can't see him being a worthwhile 4th seamer.

I was talking more long term with my question btw. Who would be the first reserve seamer long term?

Why want Shoaib Akhtar.. bowlers did a decent job.. it was fielding, bating and wicket keeping that let pakistan down..

I think the combination of Gul, kaneria, Aamer and asif pretty strong..Pakistan should stay with that..
Yep but you need atleast two genuine quick bowlers...who can generate that extra yard of pace..Aamer can reach over 145..but such bowlers often get injured..so you need two to share the work load. Sami in the first innings was a fluke..dont expect him to keep doing it consistently

Watching Watto's ton again, if Pak had held their catches we'd be 5 Tests without a ton this summer with the possibility of us going through a whole summer without one.

But when one of the fast men gets injured, who then? Sami? Rauf? No thanks.
Wahab Riaz outbowled Bollinger in the Aus A and Pak A test series and there is this guy Talha who Wasim and Waqar rate as the next best talent to Aamir. Both seemed like sure shot selections for the twin tours until the squads were announced

Hence the added caveat of Akmal not being good enough to bat top five for a good test nation.

If Pakistan stopped selecting on seniority and nepotism they may uncover four batsman, definitely enough talent given how dominate their U19 sides are.
This is an interview from Jamshed Ahmed who Jack would remember was a bowler of the tourney in the 06 youth WC.
................................................................................................................................
I've just been speaking to Jamshed Ahmed the 20 year old PIA pace bowler, who was of course one of the leading lights in the 2006 under 19 World Cup.

Following the 2006 World Cup, Jamshed was tipped as a cricketer with the world at his feet :-

http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/co...ory/237993.html

In the World Cup, Jamshed helped a talented Pakistan team storm to victory, as they defended a paltry score of 109 in the final against India. Jamshed took 14 wickets in the 2006 World Cup at an average of only 11.78 and surely this was the start of a bright career.

PIA expressed an interest in signing Jamshed and he duly obliged. However things have not turned out as Jamshed would have wished at PIA. He has only played in 13 first class matches in 3 seasons.

"I'm not from a wealthy family and we have had to overcome many financial issues over the years. When I signed for PIA in 2006/07, I thought it would be the start of a promising cricketing career. However things have not turned out how I wished they would" added Jamshed.

Jamshed continued "Even in the first season I knew things were going to be tough, as I took 7 wickets in one match in my debut season, then I was dropped for the next game.. I've thought about moving to another team, but if I go to a regional team, the salary would be a lot less and I wouldnt be offered a job with them. Then I thought about trying to sign for another department, but all the departmental teams have a number of established bowlers in their squads and they would probably get preference over me in selection matters. I would also have to get a NOC from PIA which I'm not sure they would provide".

Jamshed who was dropped for PIA's previous Quaid E Azam Trophy match added "I just want a proper chance, where I get a full season to show what I can do. I dont mind the competition for places but give me a fair chance at least. I took 5 wickets in my last performance for PIA, as we won by 10 wickets, but then I was dropped for the next game which is very frustrating for me".

As a Pakistani fan what hurts me the most is that at #3 we have a guy who is averaging 25 after 25+ games.FFS we are no Bangladesh if Younis is unavailable blood a youngster take a punt like they did with Umer and Aamer can't do worse then these tried and tested failures.

In 90's we use to ask for Ijaz Ahmed's head and he was averaging close to Nasir Hussain, Michal Atherton the joke selection policies and nepotism has just taken Pak cricket backwards by atleast 50 years heck the side from the 1950's had more spine then these bunch of loosers.

This is getting funnier Yousuf asks for Younis and he gets Razzaq,Rana from the selectors.

Anybody else got tickets for the Hobart test?

I picked mine up today from Bellerive. Got general admission tickets. I reckon I'll sit in the wet area, not because I'll be drinking but because it is always a lot more fun :)
