*Official* Pakistan in Australia

This rushing people to Australia business has been ridiculous throughout the series.
Yeah, defeats the purpose of having a squad in the first place. Should have just sent 12 at the start and sent more as they were needed if they were going to be like this. Rauf went from being third choice quick to being sent home entirely in the space of one game and Fawad Alam got sent home despite not playing while he was here.

Just goes to show it doesn't matter what talent you have at your disposal, a totally inept system and board of control can have an astounding effect. When I read that they'd said Lawson was 'useless' the first thing that entered my mind was that I'd bet the people in control of cricket there are badly organised and have no real plan for what they seemingly want to achieve. Lawson's expendable (and I'm not saying he was perfect, he might not be a great coach but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been totally useless), so he gets thrown away, and the system continues on its merry way.

Reminds me a little of teaching in Korea

PCB: Younus will be send for Aus ODIs
Younus Khan will not be sent for the final Test against Australia and instead he will be considered for the ODI series Down Under.

Qasim told reporters that there was no logic behind sending Younus to Australia for the final Test at Hobart as they want to give him more time to regain his touch by playing in the domestic circuit.

"We have decided not to send Younus to Australia for the Tests as we already have a settled batting combination there and we don't want to upset it now after two Tests," he said.:laugh::wacko:
"We believe that Younus has a definite role in Pakistan team and we would like to see him join the team for the five one-day internationals," he stated.

"We want him to regain his batting confidence," Qasim added.

Of late, Younus has struggled for his form, managing just 11 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final last month.

To add to his problems, the right-hander, playing for Habib Bank, was dismissed for just nine and seven runs in the first round game of the Pentangular Cup. .

In his place, young Faisal Iqbal has occupied the crucial number three position in the national team in Australia and has done fairly well.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf had asked the Cricket Board (PCB) to rush Younus to Australia in time for the on-going second Test in Sydney after his team lost the first game in Melbourne by a crushing 170 runs.

But PCB chairman Ejaz Butt and selectors turned down his request, prompting Yousuf to state that he was disappointed but there was nothing much he could do.

Younus, who himself withdraw from the Test tour of New Zealand last year in November because of his poor form and a desire to take a break from international cricket, has also lost the captaincy to Yousuf.

..............................................................................................................................

So the guy is 10x the test player then he is an odi player so he gets selected for odi's wonderful logic.

This is an interview from Jamshed Ahmed who Jack would remember was a bowler of the tourney in the 06 youth WC.
................................................................................................................................
I've just been speaking to Jamshed Ahmed the 20 year old PIA pace bowler, who was of course one of the leading lights in the 2006 under 19 World Cup.

Following the 2006 World Cup, Jamshed was tipped as a cricketer with the world at his feet :-

http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/co...ory/237993.html

In the World Cup, Jamshed helped a talented Pakistan team storm to victory, as they defended a paltry score of 109 in the final against India. Jamshed took 14 wickets in the 2006 World Cup at an average of only 11.78 and surely this was the start of a bright career.

PIA expressed an interest in signing Jamshed and he duly obliged. However things have not turned out as Jamshed would have wished at PIA. He has only played in 13 first class matches in 3 seasons.

"I'm not from a wealthy family and we have had to overcome many financial issues over the years. When I signed for PIA in 2006/07, I thought it would be the start of a promising cricketing career. However things have not turned out how I wished they would" added Jamshed.

Jamshed continued "Even in the first season I knew things were going to be tough, as I took 7 wickets in one match in my debut season, then I was dropped for the next game.. I've thought about moving to another team, but if I go to a regional team, the salary would be a lot less and I wouldnt be offered a job with them. Then I thought about trying to sign for another department, but all the departmental teams have a number of established bowlers in their squads and they would probably get preference over me in selection matters. I would also have to get a NOC from PIA which I'm not sure they would provide".

Jamshed who was dropped for PIA's previous Quaid E Azam Trophy match added "I just want a proper chance, where I get a full season to show what I can do. I dont mind the competition for places but give me a fair chance at least. I took 5 wickets in my last performance for PIA, as we won by 10 wickets, but then I was dropped for the next game which is very frustrating for me".
Sad story that

Why doesn't Pakistan just scrap the present system and move over to a state side only FC tourney like the other major nations? Let the corporate teams have their own club competition.

Excerpt from interview that Pratyush did with me said:
It might have been Anwar Ali who took all the wickets in the final, but considerbowled beautifully in both the semi and final. Bowling left arm inswingers, at a fantastic length, once he starts to move it both ways he'll become a real problem for the best of batsmen. He even looks like Wasim Akram!
Too right I knew Jamshed! Bloody travesty that he's not even getting a regular game in FC cricket.

They've done that countless times in the past, but seem unable to prevent themselves from changing the format every year.

The answer lies in jamshed's interview.Departments such as banks and airlines allow job security and better pay especially since most of these belong to poor families.Reigons comes under PCB and hence its not a surprise most are cash strapped all the time.

Its something Imran Khan had proposed a number of times but its a bit unrealistic in Pakistan as there aer only 4 states..and that would severely cut down on number of players..and ruin their source of income. Many of these domestic players come from poor families and need a decent source of income.

I think North and Siddle could be dropped to blood some new players for the last Test as North only has 186 runs @ 23 from 5 Tests while Siddle has only 6 wkts @ 68 from 4 Tests...more than enough chances

So assuming Katich is fit and could open or fill a middle order slot (as Watto is now the #1 opener), who would you replace North and Siddle with....

Batting candidates (in order of FC runs scored)

Klinger (29) 655 runs @ 109
Bailey (27) 506 runs @ 56 (but I think he's inured?)
Khawaja (23) 485 runs @ 60
S. Marsh (26) 477 runs @ 59
Rogers (32) 456 runs @ 65
Hughes (21) 425 Runs @ 38
D.Hussey (32) 414 runs @ 51
Jaques (30) 403 runs @ 50
Smith (20) 267 runs @ 89

Bowling candidates (in order of FC wkts)...umm, the cupboard looks bare......

George (23) 24 wkts @ 28
Geeves (27) 16 wkts @ 28
McKay (26) 12 wkts @ 30

So I guess Siddle will play.....

Siddle has been playing injured & not @ 100% to a level though. Unlike North who has definately look gash. Siddle's pace has been down since the ODI series in IND...

All the more reason not to play him.

Series has been won; if the guy's injured, leave him out.
Well i guess the selectors are backing him to ride it out & regain his mojo which i'd say is fair enough, Sidvicous is a strong boy.

The potential replacements aren't that flash either. Dont rate McKay much, although he is decent, plus last i checked my boy Nannes hasn't played a FC game in while.

Well Watto has 11 wkts @ 25 so maybe give him more bowling so he can become the best allrounder in the World...until he breaks down of course 8-)

Haa ye i got to admit every spell Watto bowls i cant help but cringe & hope the he doesn't break down so far this summer. But he seems to be holding up well, he should get a rest a some point during the ODIs vs PAK & WI for sure though..

Wahab Riaz outbowled Bollinger in the Aus A and Pak A test series and there is this guy Talha who Wasim and Waqar rate as the next best talent to Aamir. Both seemed like sure shot selections for the twin tours until the squads were announced
Talha's FC performances haven't always been great, from what I have seen on Cricinfo. He is often expensive and often doesn't pick up wickets when a track suits. Watching his performance in his debut, he lacks the yard of pace that he was touted as having, stuck mainly at 130-140kph.
