Haven't seen most of those players but dropping half the team for the likes of Manzoor is a good way to become a **** team.
Kaneria isn't the best spinner, but he's pretty good. Definitely not the worst spinner in Pakistans history.
Pakistan just lack good leadership and Kamran had a horror test. No idea who should captain because YK is so unreliable and Yousuf sucks, which of these guys captain their domestic sides? Even if its someone sucky like Farhart, if they're a decent skipper then you might as well keep them in the team for that because Pakistan don't have a lot of reserves that you can have confidence in anyway.
After this test, even though I dont think Kamran is as bad a keeper as he was this test, his confidence will be shot and if Sarfraz is as good as I've heard from some of the Pakistan posters then bring him in and have Kamran as a specialist bat (which he is good enough to be for Pakistan atm).

Awesome comeback. Pakistan have just shown why you cant afford to take the foot off the throat of anybody. The tremors in NZ where they dropped the likes of Vettori and Taylor and were punished along with the inability to handle bounce, even from 125-135 guys like Tuffey was always going to culminate in this epic fail if they didn't sort themselves out.
Is Fawad Alam a conservative player? Like the rest of them he can't handle bounce but if he's reasonably conservative then at least he might be a bit less fustrating.

You ought to check out the hisotry of chasing low scores in Sydney, before you suggest that Ponting's decision to bat first was bad.

Ponting's poor captaincy is easier forgiven due to the resources at his disposal. And, of course, the home field advantage. It's far from even.

The saying 'history is bunk' fits well here.
History didn't mean squat here. The pitch was so completely different to anything that has gone before it, that reading anything into past results was a waste of time. As I've said elsewhere, the pitch was near its best for batting when Pakistan couldn't chase 170-odd.
It wasn't anywhere near the slow, low deck that was so hard to score on when SA won that epic Test defending 120 or whatever it was. It wasn't the turning deck it was when Michael Clarke grabbed three at the death. So therefore, history was largely irrelevant, even if the side batting first one again.
I'd qualify that all by saying Ponting's captaincy otherwise was very sound.

Bit of myth that Akmal senior is good enough to play purely as a batman. Maybe for Pakistan but he isn't top five material for a good test outfit. If you want a sacrificial lamb, then you could get him opening or have him at three but if he can't catch, then you might as get a 'real' batsman in the side.
