Can we please push the discussion back to cricket. As in the game itself. Not about some hatred that isn't exactly related to Pakistan vs Australia.
well it is related..someone posted an article by roebuck full of 'it was better in the old days when the Pakistani's used to fight for their country's pride' rubbish..it was posted on here by someone I feel was trying to get a reaction out of Pakistani supporters...I felt well within my rights to state my opinion on such an article and indeed the writer.

Of course it hasnt occured to Roebuck that maybe, just maybe,Australia are the far superior team, and that Pakistan are a young team that are learning to adapt to Australian conditions.

well there you go..I personally find endlessly answering daft trivial/trivia questions post after post brings down the forums intellectual standards a hell of a lot more..but I am not going to complain, I just dont visit...
There are lot of people on this forum who are interested in cricket trivia (as the large number of visitors to that thread shows), and the fact that you are not into that, does probably reflect your intellectual capabilities and interests and not those who participate in that thread !!

There are lot of people who are interested in the history of the game , which you obviously are not !!

Holy crap! These "teenagers" were 19 year olds. I can't believe I never heard about this incident. He gave one of the players six of the best with the cane, and then six of the best with his hand. Completely inappropriate, and if he'd done that to my teenage son, I'd have been looking to pound the living crap out of him.

As far as Roebuck's material goes, I used to enjoy his material and use of language quite a bit years ago, but I've probably gotten sick of his repetitive style. And his constant waxing lyrical about players he might have condemned a few weeks ago gets kind of wearing. I have to admit, I also find some of his racial comments pretty absurd and antiquated. People's mileage may vary though - he's still streets ahead of any of the Herald Sun sports section reporters.

Mate, when you ask Jason if he was one of Roebuck's "favorites", you're gonna have to acknowledge that you've made a personal insult...

Anyhow, back to the cricket...

Actually, I think the selectors will stick with the current XI. Yasir is in questionable form and Malik is untested against Australia.

Any side that can get on top of Australia, even for one session, deserves credit.
Yeah - although that was pretty much down to two men - Shoaib and Sami (and we're yet to see if Shoaib will make the next match). I'd still be in favor of Malik being given a go.

Okay why didnt Australa enforce the follow on? Only one reason - batsmen want to get more test runs to their names. Thats selfis IMO when winning the game early should have been the approach to be followed.

Or maybe it's putting down a marker for the whole series?

what are you talking about?
im talking about an ordinary replay, that you see on tv that tells us so much about good and bad lbw decisions.
I'm talking about a simple system to greatly aid the pick-up of the inside edge that won't delay the game.

Then he manufactures a situation by not enforcing a follow on to get easy runs when Pakistan is down and out.
And of course ti is automatically manufacturing it, and nothing to do with perhaps being the right decision in the game?

I thought they might have put Gilchrist ahead of Clarke in order to get some quick runs before declaring either a little before the end of play or a little after play begins tomorrow.
I wouldn't have thought changing the order was necessary.

Looks like it was at least partly about nursing Martyn to a century against a weakened attack (Martyn was on 60 or so when the 500 lead was passed). I hope we don't see many more situations as contrived as this in future, because that was lousy. Just my opinion - it certainly makes some of the comments Ponting and the Australians have made about other players in the past seem a little strange.

The exaggerated conservatism reminds me of Border, who was so over-cautious whenever his team got the upper hand. But at least he had a fairly ordinary bowling attack as an excuse.
I think you may have missed the reason why Ponting didnt declare earlier.

Keeping the Pak players out in the field as long as he can will make the job easier for the bowlers. It has been hot in Perth and by now I bet the Pak players just cant wait for this game to finish. Australia on the other hand would be fresh and full of confidence. I really cant figure out why Martyn getting a century upsets you so much.

I know you like to see yourself as a bit of a stirrer, but seeing as you seem to read any criticism of any member of the Aussie team as a personal blow, maybe you need a thinner skin. Just sayin'.

Martyn getting a century in of itself doesn't upset me at all - I really enjoyed his centuries in Sri Lanka and India, they were great knocks. Your constant attempt to couch your arguments in the context of people being somehow "against Australia" or "whining" are really boring, particularly considering the amount of whining you do about how people post.

I just didn't like the contrivance of going beyond a 500 lead in order to nurse somebody from 60 to 100. A 500 lead was always going to be way more than we ever needed to win this game comfortably. If you don't think that, you need to watch more cricket, particularly this match. I didn't have a problem with not enforcing the follow-on - I did think that was an effort to reduce stress on the bowlers. However, the batting on yesterday was tedious, and unnecessary. And if we were having this conversation about India, or Sri Lanka, or Michael Vaughan, not only would you not have a problem with what I was saying, you'd probably be joining in. Try aiming higher than one-eyed parochial trolling, for a change.

Man, hard to believe he's turning 30 - he still looks so young. I think it was Langer's birthday during one of the Kiwi tests too.

Haha, tell me about it - I don't quite have a bald spot yet, but it's definitely thinner at the top than it used to be. :) Ricky definitely drew the short straw though.

Very interesting incident just now. Facing Kaneria, Martyn hit the ball back up the pitch. Kaneria collected it, noticed Martyn was out of his crease, and had a throw at the stumps. Martyn actually hit the ball, deliberately, with his bat.

The commentators believe it could be a case for obstructing the field, presumably because Martyn's focus was on preventing the ball hitting the stumps, rather than making his ground. No Pakistan player appealed though, so it was never tested.

Anybody really familiar with the laws on this? Does it come down to whether or not Martyn was in his crease when he hit the ball, or does it not matter?
I don't see why you wouldn't appeal - you simply never know. Obviously some of the Pakistanis aren't fimilar with the obstructing the field rule.

plenty of time left in the match, and it keeps them in the field for longer, as well as the crowd happy cause they get to watch their hometown hero do well (after Langer and Gilly previously).
