Pretty sure cricinfo have messed up, its not that Asghar playing

Mohammad Asghar | Cricket Players and Officials | ESPN Cricinfo

Its that Asghar picked, quite a lot of hype about him, gun numbers in his fifty over career and has done well in his brief red ball career. Supposedly only 18 as well, makes sense to have a look against quality opposition.

Rashid getting 3fer is a good return today. Did we drop catches/no balls or just give Pakistan A more wickets because we wanted to bowl today and bat tomorrow?
Edit

Just added the wickets up, the latter then.

Indeed.

Somewhat surprised that Misbah flew out for batting practise and did not bat either match and today sent in players to bat twice, heck is he even their?

Pretty out there, this.

The Pakistan side lost 12 wickets despite not having to send any tailenders out in a 15-a-side game. But the four players Pakistan didn't set out to bat included Misbah, Pakistan's captain and specialist batsmen who as well as not batting is apparently not captain here. The captain is Junaid Khan, who also did not bat.

Alastair Cook and Joe Root have been rested, but still spent a session each captaining the side.

I can only see 9 wickets fallen. So who got wickets that haven't been credited?
If you add up the wickets in the bowling figures, they've all been credited. Three guys batted twice and cricinfo just don't know how to show that on the batting part of the scorecard.

Yeah Misbah, Junaid, Ashgar and Zia apparently didn't show up the game at all today despite being part of the team. Bit of a miscommunication as to who was meant to be playing, I think.

Wood would be nailed on for me. Need something different on roads, he has a yard which could help.

Stokes looks like someone who doesn't add much value on this tour to be honest.
On the batting side Stokes has a significantly higher batting average than Bairstow (in roughly the same number of matches) and Taylor. Taylor looks like a shoe in as he does look like he has more than half an idea against spin. I can't see Hales, Bairstow or Stokes doing much on a spinning surface but I think Stokes is at least as likely as the other 2 to get a ton at some point. Clearly Root, Cook and Bell, if he isn't in terminal decline, are significantly better bats than Stokes but there is no compelling evidence that anyone else in the tour party is a better specialist bat than Stokes at the moment, which says more about the current depth of English batting. My guess is Bairstow will start the series as he deserves a run to decide if he has an international future, although I'd be a little surprised if he's still in the team in the third test as I feel he still has too many technical flaws which bowlers will exploit at the highest level. Taylor will also start because he looks like he could be a decent player of spin, but as with Bairstow he could well bat himself out of test contention by the end of the series. Hales will almost certainly open in South Africa, although I'm not sure he has the back foot game to do well against their quicks. It wouldn't surprise me if England are back looking for 2 new batsmen for the home series with Sri Lanka and Pakistan. If Bell retires that could be 3 and if Stokes was also dropped that would be 4 of the top 6. But I also think a lot of the anti Stokes push is based on he is one of the weaker number 6 batsmen we have had in a while, rather than their being clear strong alternative and I think that he should and will continue to play as a top six batsman for the winter at least.

Bowling wise Wood never really moved on all summer from looking like someone who had something which could be developed. On some pretty helpful wickets in the summer he took 10 wickets against Australia at just under 40, fewer wickets at a higher average than Stokes, although he did have a marginally better economy rate. I can't see him doing any better in the UAe, although I think he has a stronger case for a run in South Africa. An on form Finn is a significantly better than Stokes. Plunkett seems to be able to maintain his pace for longer than Wood. Stokes does have more test match 5 wicket hauls than Plunkett and Wood together, so although I'd say both were marginally better bowlers I don't think either are going to win us a game in the UAe and Finn is still hit and miss as to which bowler will turn up, so I don't see an overwhelming case for a 4th (or even a third seamer) to play ahead of Stokes on wickets where the majority of overs should be bowled by spinners.

Bairstow should be in ahead of Buttler.

Wood was injured for most of series and bowled so good spells mixed in with some dross. His variation is reason he gets nod for me.

It is very likely that Misbah went to field not for batting practice but to get a close look at some of english batsmen. Hope this will help him come up with with a plan to bowl better to these players.

Ahh the advantages of playing one of the Big 3.
Cricinfo now filled with articles relating to Pakistan cricket...including one from Mark Nicholas who woke up

Good news for England's chances of winning the series this session imo. Made posts earlier in this thread that Bell is a better option than Moeen to open- and Taylor is probably their 3rd best bat in these conditions and needs to play. Obviously this session is in no way defining of anything - but it increases the likelihood of their selection which is a big positive for me.

Hmm both Bell and Taylor retiring at lunch. Buttler and Stokes to bat. Bairstow still to bat.

One of Buttler, Bairstow and Stokes will have to miss out on selection for the first test if Taylor plays. Who knows maybe they've already made their minds up and Taylor isn't playing or maybe it's still up for grabs.

Need Buttler and Stokes to bat for a while now, they desperately need some runs.

Still think the test side will be the team that played the last match but Taylor has done his chances of a call up no harm at all. Only other possible option is to give Bairstow the gloves and play Taylor instead of Buttler. Still think Wood will get the nod over Finn simply for his extra pace.
